@@dylan6996 it all in preference. Personally I think it was a sudden ending to a dramatic final verse and I loved the aesthetic of that. I also love how it almost sounds as if his voice breaks at the end, signifying how scared he is to be afraid and that hits me hard tbh. To me I love the ending, but I can totally see how others wouldn’t like it at the same time. However this is a mixtape, and it’s nice to see him experimenting with new styles

This song hits a lot harder for those of us that battle depression. It so accurately describes the different stages.. falling into depression; fighting it; coming out the other side.

I love the song honestly. He is kinda all over the place with his thoughts and doubts are heavy in the slower parts of the song but the very end it’s like he gets a moment of clarity and stops “drifting” and then just goes for it and expresses what he needs to say and ask for. Really cool technique I think.

The beat was literally him humming layered over and over. This song is actually my favorite from the mixtape. He also said initially it was going to just end with the piano, but it didn’t feel right. So he added that part

The fact that it's weird is intentional... It's a song about his mental state/psyche and the beat fits perfectly with the lyrics. By far the deepest and one of the best songs on the album...

probably my favorite song at the moment because the lyrics are just really relatable and on point. the end is my favorite though. a lot of people critique the end but he says some really really powerful stuff at the end there and its really underrated. "tell me im worth it God, give me the faith to rise" and "i'd rather be burned alive then go back to thinking im insignificant" both such powerful lines.

Dude the ending is one of the things I love the most about this song 💀 i know you said it was weird how it finished subtly but that’s also another aspect that I think is great about it.......the verse was just a burst of emotions as he finally stopped drifting and exclaims that he no longer wants to feel insignificant or afraid.....emotions don’t come in any particular form.....so the the verse is super energetic then ends kinda softly showing us the volatility of feelings in general and how raw emotions are.....you don’t necessarily expect them to come out the way they do

So I was re-listening to NF Drifting … and realized when he says "unknown SOUNDS" he might mean sounds in the nautical term: In nautical terms, the word sound is used to describe the process of determining the depth of water OR In geography, a sound is a smaller body of water typically connected to larger sea or ocean… especially since he says "drifting… watching the world go round" - amazing!

I understand what you mean by the beat - I enjoyed it tho! Liked how he had actual PAUSES on the beat. The song had a "drifting" vibe, true, but I felt his delivery was hard/soft contrasting which was cool, and almost "agressive" at times! Also a big fan of his adlibs, specialy on the beat pause with the "EY!" and the dark "demon" at the end there aswell.
