Tony is an author, lecturer, consultant and an admitted reefaholic.
He started his aquatic adventures at the age of seven with Guppies in a pickle jar. In the early eighties he assembled his first salt water aquarium (fish only). Moving on to more challenging waters, in the mid 1980's he experimented with marine invertebrates and corals. In the late eighties a handful of aquarist including Tony were among the first in the United States to successfully maintain Acropora alive in captivity.
Tony began to share his experiences with others through the many articles he wrote in a column titled "Feature Coral" for FAMA magazine. One of the Acropora articles in FAMA was acknowledge in Carden Wallace's text book on Acropora titled Staghorn Corals of the World.
Today Tony SCUBA dives around the world taking underwater photos and observing reef creatures in their natural environment. In addition to writing about his experiences and observations, Tony travels to give lectures and consultations on coral and reef fish husbandry, and aquarium system design.
He now manages an aquarium shop in Qatar.

Great talk! Happy for you to discover GNC :) Guys use it in Croatia for the past few years and they just work without issues. No cooling issue, no vent clogging, no noise. I have 4 Philips Coral Care gen2 on my tank and they are also great. They are heavy and not so fancy like GNC, but have the same benefits.

Interesting stream, I used all dead rock for my 800g it took over 12 months to reach where a live rock tank would have been in 2 or 3.

Dry rock just doesn't have the benefits...

With regards to lighting, I started out with Kessils and reef Brites which didn't fill the tank with light adequately in my opinion. Just purchased a Ati powermodule T5/Led hybrid, which is wide and deep as my tank. I realize I am stepping back in terms of technology, however I feel this will take the guess work out of what the corals need for healthy and robust life. We'll see, light is going up this week.

Hey Keith as a side note if you still have some metal halide lights I just saw on Facebook that a retail seller now has 200 and 400 radium bulbs that are 20k

Radium metal halide bulbs are in production. Aqua Bright Solutions and Aquarium Specialty have them in stock. All Radium lamps, 250W and 400W, are 20K.

Excellent chapter! There is a video of Tulio in the Polo Reef where he compares Metal Halide spectrum to Radion G5. The main take away is they both run about the same temperature!

If you understand LED from a technological perspective you understand that all LED lights that use/need fans are just cheaply 'badly' designed.
