We visit with our friend Tom Crawford of North Carolina who shares the story of a rare red tractor - a 1964 Massey Ferguson Super 90 High Crop machine - that is powered with LP fuel. You won't find many tractors that stand out more than this one! These tractors were built from 1961 to 1965. Tom is known as a John Deere fan -- but he prizes this rarely seen Super 90.

The LP Massey - Ferguson are quite rare to see in person. The only LP M-F I've ever seen was on a calendar, & I believe it was a M-F 50 like my 1959 M-F 50 gasoline. Thanks for featuring this rare 1964 M-F 90 LP she is a beauty.

That is one great looking tractor! My father bought a super 90 in 1964, standard row crop Diesel with multipower, ran a 2 r o w Fox Harvester and pulled 4 bottom semi mounted John Deere plow, was a great tractor!

What a gorgeous looking tractor. I'd have to say it's one of my favorite you've shown. Tom Crawford has one special tractor in the 1964 Massey Ferguson Super 90LP. Thanks for sharing this wonderful classic!

Love my L.P.G. powered tractor too, the engine oil never discolors because there's no contaminants in the fuel. I can fill the tank right out of the L.P. gas barrel on the farm, without a pump.

so where there special adapters available to carry a tank with you out to the field in case you ran out of fuel? Ive never seen how a fixed tank propane tractor would be filled in the middle of a field by a truck. really interesting tho.

@@MrChevelle83 , The only connector that maybe isn't so common is the one that attaches to the tank on the tractor, but I have that, and it is attached to a hose that has a fitting on the other end that I can screw into the outlet of any propane tank, even a 20 pond bbq grill tank, I can turn that 20 pound tank upside down and flow liquid propane right out of there into the tank on my tractor, it will flow into the tank on the tractor when I open the 80% valve on the tractor and let some vapor out. I don't have any of the new style barbecue grill tanks that have the 3 cornered knob on top, It's possible that they have a valve inside that will prevent from getting liquid to flow out when the tank is inverted, I don't know. But the old school ones don't have that.

@@theda850two Oh ok that explains a lot, yes you are correct in the new tanks have a anti tip over valve that stops the flow if a tank is tipped too far. (you can remove the valve and disable it tho) So Im getting its basically like filling the tiny bottles from a 20lb tank with the adapter fittings. but they cant be completely filled due to no vapor dump valve. Thanks for the explanation.

I've got a rare tractor myself. An Allis Chalmers scamper 8. Ive never been able to find another one nor have I seen another one.

#ClassicTractorFever if possible you need to take a look at the Transmission shift pattern on that Massey Ferguson Super 90 because to the best of my knowledge they EITHER came with a 8-Speed Manual Transmission or the rare 16-SPEED MULTI-POWER TRANSMISSION as the ONLY 2 transmission options . Both transmission options had a ground speed pto .

Great looking rig. I am almost surprised the multipower works. It was a weak point in the early massy's.

Learn how to use them, you won't have a problem, we ran several of them never replaced any of them, and I hear all the negative garbage about torque amplifiers on Internationals we also ran those, we only replace one and we just did it because we were putting a clutch in the tractor, didn't need it but why not replace it when she's already split! The weak point multipower syntorq amplifiers is the operator not the tractor

can anyone explain how using LP was practical???? how did you get a propane truck out in the middle of a field if you ran out of fuel????

Back in the day...farms that ran LP tractors had a main LP tank on the farm which they filled their tractors up with...just like any tractor you watch your fuel gauge.. especially with an LP! Not rocket science
