Description: Northeast Regional 88 hits some tree brush just outside of Shaws Cove, which happened to be knicked on the catenary wires and caught fire. ACS-64 609 suffered some damsge to its pantograph which eventually rendered the train stranded in New London for several hours. It also blocked the state street railroad crossing which allowed access to the fishers island ferry. Once the brush fire was cleared at around 10:30pm and some other late trains came through, a Springfield Shuttle set was sent from New Haven to tow 88’s equipment to Boston. Seen here, it runs to Groton where it then switched onto Track 2 to hook onto the equipment. Once connected, Regiona 168 arrived and departed just after 1 am, and then once he cleared, the tow made its journey to Boston.
