Atlus's games used to be infamous for having very short print runs which lead to them becoming rare and expensive later on. In this video, I cover the rarest and most expensive games Atlus has ever published, some of which typically go for prices in the thousands range!

Rule of Rose is such a gem. I remember joking about it when hollywood was talking abt making a female only Lord of the Flies adaptation like "dude just buy the rights to Rule of Rose" but only like one of my friends got it haha Dokapon Kingdom is also fun af, though idk how well it'd hold up for me now, having gotten into hobby board games since the last time I played it.

4:07 Steambot Chronicles is the nexus point of so many of my loves in video games, and any attention it gets is always appreciated. It had so many different things for a small PS2 game. Customizable robot vehicles, a simulated economy, day/night cycles where the people who walk around town change, a giant land-ship battle, the horrors of capitalism, classism, and even the rare anti-industrialist messaging, Pablo Picasso, artifact hunting, rhythm minigames, the wright brothers, the Persian gulf war, zeppelins, batman. It really had it all.

Dokapon Kingdom is a game I have fond memories of. I remember watching The Runaway Guys play this game and ended up finding a used copy of it for about 50 bucks at a remote GameStop. I remember playing it with some friends from college and it took us a quarter or two of school to beat it. Still, it was definitely one of the most fun experiences I had with friends, despite the yelling.

The first thing I actually thought of when I saw the rose symbol was actually Eternal Poison. One of my roommates back in college had that. I actually got Dokapon Kingdom back when it was new, but I got the (somehow) inferior PS2 version. The major differenc was there was voice acting on the Wii version. Also shoutout to the Samurai Western cinematic at the beginning!

I once played Dokapon kingdom with my friend for 24 hours straight. We got to a point where we were invincible to all of the monsters for our area (some sort of windswept canyon full of flying monsters). We were really confused when the game didn't end after we saved the princess. We started as a group of 4, but went down to 2 around 1am. We were still going when the others woke up. I don't know how long it actually goes, but it's a while.

@@milkmolotov4167 true but who wants to buy a dead console, have it constantly hooked up which takes up space and possibly make an overseas account all for a handful of games. that goes without saying that no ones purchases are safe of PSN. at some point sony will shut down the PS3 servers and when they do, poof. there goes your money and game. I realize thats more of a sony thing for not allowing people to play their digital games from the PS3 on the PS5 but Atlus sure doesnt seem to concerned about the situation. what they should do is release these games on PC. at least on there longevity and preservation is a thing.

Rule of Rose...that game haunts me for different reason. 10ish years ago I was at a game store that was going out of business. I was bought a few random games, nothing special, but one game caught my eye. Behind the counter, top shelf by itself was Rule of Rose, for $20. I had never heard of the game at the time so I knew nothing about it, and with my limited funds I ended up passing on the game. Honestly if the game wasn't so secluded and easily spotted behind the counter I may have never noticed it. A few years ago I finally heard of the game and man...do I wish I just spent that $20

Operation Darkness is my pick for the next Atlus game to become $200 rare & expensive. Also Tears for Tiara 2 and Lost Dimensions for PS3. 3D dot game Heroes is a little too common to hit $100 but it could come close because demand is so strong. Shiren the Wanderer on Wii as well as baroque and Trauma Team are really uncommon on the Wii as well as being great games.
@Unquestionable

Operation Darkness was pricey for a bit but did get a digital rerelease. Still got my original copy somewhere in storage and while it had an awesome premise they somehow managed to make the camera a nightmare (in a turn based strategy game at that!) and some absolutely unfair game play that makes it nerve wracking.

Odin Sphere is one of the most interesting results considering the fact the game itself was one of the most interesting combat loops I've ever played. It's like a hybrid of a beat em up action rpg, it's combat loop However can literally be customized to pratically... anything you want, to the point you can use skills in fighting game esc combinations, the gameplay as a whole was made very smart... minus the inconsistent frame rate and skill hunting itself. It's easily the most interesting game I've ever seen, glad it got a remaster

I have a physical copy of steambot chronicles. What drew me in to buy it was the art style and saw some gameplay footage and it looked fun. I did end up enjoying it and The controls were a bit weird but it never took me out of it. Also if I recall it wasn't to hard and it felt laid back which is a good thing. Wouldn't mind a remaster to just pop in current consoles. I mean theres not a lot of games like it.

Hi! Great video, but I do have a suggestion. Please try filtering the eBay listings to "Sold" instead of active listings. Anyone can list a game for whatever price they want. Pulling data from only sold listings is the closest price others are willing to pay for these retro games. You can also use the site pricecharting for solid price estimates.

Another flaw I'd like to add from the doka discord for exactly kingdom is the extreme level of unbalance. Defense is straight up a power-crept stat since hp boosting is simply better. The strike button is straight up overpowered since the A.I. doesn't counter often and the strike button's damage includes a combination of your attack, magic, and for some reason speed. This essentially creates a game state where speed and hp are the only usable stats while attack and magic are really bad. A lot of field magic is simply overtuned as well with key examples being: Come Here, blistered feet, shock, Sleepy Time, down, and the Debuff spells. Also some classes are simply overpowered and like you said, completely based on luck. Alchemist and Acrobat are the two most famous ones with acrobat having a 50% chance to revive yourself and Alchemist letting you dupe any item in the game randomly. There is more but the less people who know about the casino, the better.
