I LOVE Civil War photography. I think this is what sparked my interest in the Civil War way back in the early 1970's when all you could do was go to the library and check out books and look at photos. Still amazing to this day. Thanks so much for sharing and PLEASE keep doing this!

When Elizabeth mentioned the unknowns, I had a feeling there would be a few of Barnard's photographs in there. George Barnard is buried just down the road from me.

The mystery photo of the three Union Officers in front of a tent. I saw the same photo along the trail at Monterey Pass Battlefield. There it says that the Officer in the center was Brigadier General Thomas Neill of the 6th Corp. He was my Great, Great Uncles Brigade Commander.

5:02 Interesting bridge. Is it simply floating on the water’s surface? It doesn’t appear to have any support.

It is indeed, simply floating but on pontoon boats, and it is anchored on the ends.

Are copies of this map available at the Antietam NMP? It would be fascinating to take one out on a hike of the battlefield to try to locate some of these burial sites.

Great, thank you. I am planning on visiting Antietam this fall or next spring to check out the refreshed visitor center and it will be interesting to locate some of these sites in hiking the battlefield.

I would assume that most of these graves were ultimately moved to the National Cemetery at Antietam.

Does the map document grave sites which still hold a dead soldier , or are these grave sites where a soldier was discovered and then removed to a proper cemetery? Just trying to understand ....
