Rare Econolite Neon Walk/Don't Walk Pedestrian Signal (Rosecrans St & Canon St)

This is a rare pedestrian signal in the year 2020. It has lasted for about 4 decades and still going. All the videos I have of these pedestrian signals are literally the only ones that exist in San Diego. You will find them deep in the Point Loma area. When this was a new pedestrian signal, the walk signal was white, but now after almost 4 decades of service, the lens for the WALK decolored a little and turned green which is a good color for it to turn to since green means go.

It's great to see those old walk/don't walk signal. I still see only a few of those left in Bellflower. So cool.

Yeah. It's also cool how it is now 2020 and we are still seeing walk/dont walk signals.

My city had these in the 60s 70s and possibly 80s

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I have a video of this as well, and glad to see it is still flashing away. FYI... That is a white neon walk. The plastic lens gets discolored over time which gives it the green hue. Originally, this was an exposed tube neon DON'T WALK (Red) and WALK (Green). These were converted in the late 1970s - early 1980s to the back-lit DONT WALK (Portland Orange) and WALK (Lunar White). The signal head is Econolite (still in business - Anaheim, CA) and the conversion kit was made by Indicator Controls Corp. (now defunct).

Oh wow, I didn't even know the walk lens was green. Yeah those pedestrian signals last decades and longer than LED's. Make sure you check out all my videos.

Wait that can't be right. So if the lens for the walk is green, then why is the walk also red?

@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 The was not originally green. It just gets discolored from decades of use. Kind of turns brownish on the inside.

@@somuchtoseeanddo Oh I think I understand. The lens used to be clear but after decades of weather, it naturally turned green out of all colors? That's a good color for it to fade to.

I went back and found out some of the hand/man Peds did indeed used to be Worded Neons. Thank god i now have a google maps video of this cool classic!

Only 5 left in all of San Diego and they are all in this part of town.

i looked in other parts of california. Some intersections still have the Neon Walk/Don't Walk signals while others had the Legend ICC Walk/Don't Walk signals

Yeah you'll still going to see them here and there in California. It's cool that they have lasted for so long. The city needs to keep that in mind.

I looked on Byron st. One of the signals was located by the dry cleaning place until 2020 where it went out.

i found the signal and the pedestrian signals operating with it are the standard Pedestrian signals with LED Symbols.

Yeah San Diego has very diverse pedestrian signals.
