Orangutans spend most of their lives in trees forests in Sumatra and Borneo. They get their food from the trees, and they build nests in the branches to sleep in. Their long arms help them swing from tree to tree. They use their hands and feet to grab and hold tree branches and food. Orangutans are very smart. They sit under leafy branches for protection from rain and sun, and sometimes even put a very large leaf on their head like a rain hat!
Siamangs are arboreal inhabitants of the Malay Peninsula and Sumatran rain and monsoon forests. Their distinguishing feature is a large throat sac that they use to make socially important vocalizations. These primates are endangered due to illegal pet trade and habitat loss.

A study found that orang-utans have social learning skills akin to a 2-year-old, and I think that really shows here. They're like big, gentle toddlers.

This came from someone named Discovery Animals. I wonder if the author purposely calls the Gibbons monkeys. Not to mention that Homosapiens and Gibbons are the only 2 species that walk upright. Not counting penguins because they are birds.

Thanks for your video. You are supposed to be an expert with wild animals but calling Siamangs Gibbons as monkeys is a common mistake among people who are ignorant about animals. We should be able to see that Gibbons, similar to Orangs, don't have tails. Another unique feature of Gibbons is that they walk upright like Homosapiens. How on earth you can call them monkeys?
@benthekeeshond545
@benthekeeshond545 9 ай бұрын
@@user-fk5zw2wq5m I didn't mean to offend anybody. My point is that common people don't have to know the difference between a monkey and an Ape. I didn't know the difference until learning that from National Geographic. But this video is from someone who is supposed to be an animal expert.

T'be fair, these lovely fellows live in a very nice place and have all immediate needs taken care of. We humans tend to be mean to one another for the same reason apes in the wild can be mean: we're stressed out from trying to survive in a tough world.

Orangutan and siamang(gibbons) are always very closed to one another. Both are gentle apes unlike chimpanzees
@jasonberryman1035
@jasonberryman1035 Жыл бұрын
@@mezzoforte8799 orangutans are not innately “gentle” like all intelligent animals there’s nuance to their behavior. Orangutans have still seriously injured and chased people before territorially before and male orangutans sometimes violently force themselves on females. Contrasty, chimpanzees aren’t as horrible as the media sometimes makes them out as. I’m not saying any of this to put orangutans in a bad light or anything but just to say that like dolphins, chimpanzees, humans and elephants orangutans are too intelligent to be limited to one defining trait, they can be gentle but they can also be brutal if they want.

@@jasonberryman1035 No matter how much you try, you'll never be able to find enough arguments to make orangutans more piece of sht than chimpanzes.

@@crocodilo55 never said they necessarily were, but that people’s perceptions are falsely molded by the media. Male orangutan have committed rape against females and chimpanzees have adopted orphans whose parents were killed by poachers. Both of these actions are contrary to what most people imagine them to act like. The point is neither prescribe to one set behavior.
@mariomariu4394
@mariomariu4394 Жыл бұрын
@@jasonberryman1035 Orangutan act of violence is very rarely observed. And this means something. Outliers can always happen due to some brain chemicals, hormones etc are off. The point is it is NOT normal at all for them. Their potential for violence is very low. This is special for anything on this planet.

You can more or less own any kind of animal if you can prove that you can give them enough space and that you you have enough experience and money to take care of them. Just look at those private zoos. But unless you own a forest and have experience working with apes you will not get the permission.
