This is NOT the legendary Puritani with the same forces from Philadelphia. This is the Carnegie Hall performance that preceded that one by only two days. How they performed the opera twice in just three days, at this level is hard to comprehend. The tape has some issues which I've dealt with, best as I can. There are a few moments of tape wavering, but they are only moments. I've left in a few crude edits that were in the original. Better that then hacking the tape to pieces. This is an astounding performance. Sutherland and Gedda defy description. Gedda!!!!!

I didn’t know this existed.although i know Allan Oxenburg artistic director of the AMERICAN OPERA SOCIETY recorded EVERYTHING he did at Carnegie Hall…I wonder where or who has all those treasures!!…that list is mind boggling!!…thanks for the memories for this,my CARNEGIE HALL debut at age 23 ,a few months before I began my MET career…😂

I am such a fan of yours Mr. Diaz! Have seen you so many times at the Met, probably first time when I was 12 in 1972. I didn’t realize that you were only 23 here! Your beautiful voice pours out into the hall. The duet with Ernst Blanc! Gedda and Sutherland are super human. Tell me, how did you guys do it all again two days later? The 2nd performance is even better!!! I have the Philadelphia performance in better sound than the usual copies that are circulated. I’ll post. Bravo to you for the great career and endless joy of that you’ve brought to us over the years! Wow!

@@promptersbox ,…thanks so much… Nicolai and I went to Philly by stretch limousine from NYC on the day of the performance,arrived about an hour and a half at the Academy of Music before the performance there.the others ,in several limos….we all returned to NY immediately afterwards the same way…no sweat!…we were all much younger…

This same cast took this PURITANI to Philadelphia a couple days days later. That performance was recorded & I purchased it awhile back. A totally strong cast & interesting to compare that CD with this document.

Nowadays there are a lot of great singers in the whole world - also in Asia - who could establish such a wonderfull performance. But...opera is dieing. And we are the last true admirors standing around and looking into the digged grave of our so beloved opera und opera singing. Let us stay as long as it may last and - who knows - we listen into all ethernity 😂😂❤😂❤😂❤🎉❤😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤😂
