Rare Interview: Sharon Tate on "The Tonight Show" w/ Johnny Carson (Audio Only)

Air Date: August 2nd 1967
This rare interview of Sharon Tate on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was uncovered by fans in October of 2021. Prior to the audio being released, I contacted the Carson Entertainment Group & asked if they could release a video copy. Sadly there isn't an existing copy (at least in their possession) as most shows prior to 1972 were destroyed by NBC for some reason.
Still, a great find, albeit a short conversation. Hopefully more is to come.

She had one of the sweetest voice ever. It's a pleasure to hear such an educated and normal girl. I would love to see the video but thank you so much for giving us her voice and charm. 💜

she was on twice. again on 20 february 1969, but that one is still completely lost unfortunately. hopefully it’ll turn up in some form one day

I love that picture of her. My favorite. I have never seen a copy like that one without so much black eyeliner and dark eyeshadow that she often wore. I have seen pics of her without any makeup and she was ridiculously gorgeous either way. RIP Miss Tate. 😢

I’m glad she mentioned 13. that was my favorite film of hers. I still have it on DVD. (it was later called Eye Of The Devil.)

@@JoesVinylShow1980No totally different movie. In this interview she had just completed Valley of the Dolls. 13 Chairs was her last movie and came out after all this. Eye of the Devil was originally called "13" so that is why it is confusing with the later 13 Chairs.

You can hear her voice in her movies as well as interviews on KZfaq. Also there’s footage of her talking and Roman too, at a playboy party with Hugh Hefner.

Sharon Tate was beautiful and all heads would turn and she was so full of life and she had a promising career as an actress and she knew Bruce Lee and they worked on a flim called Wrecking Crew and Bruce Lee attended her funeral and I was a fan of Sharon Tate Valley Of The Dolls Dance Of The Vampires, were her biggest hits. She was only 26 yrs old when she died. RIP Sharon Tate August 9 2029 will be 60 yrs the anniversary of her death. Also RIP to all the victims who died. Poor people.

Sharon Tate was a fantastic personality, so natural, smart and beautiful in every way. Every time I see an article about her many ‘what ifs…’ come into my mind, that hasn’t changed ever since I learned of her death when I was a child in that crazy topsy turvy year - 1969 - Manson Murders, Woodstock, Altamont disaster, Apollo 11 Moon landing.

Please find the video, someone please! Somewhere in a vault! Sharon on Johnny Carson. Wow! Did they really destroy all the pre 72 tapes? I saw in a doco once that these tapes are stored in an underground site for posterity.

Never saw or even KNEW about this. THANK YOU. Did she say 13 as one of her films? I'm confused because she didn't mention Eye of the Devil and 13 chairs wasn't made until 1969. She was actually pregnant during most of the making of it.

All of the Johnny Carson Tonight Shows were lost before 1973-1972, only 1973 to 1992 exist.

I believe Johnny Carson's wife at the time, Joanna, (around 1972) discovered NBC was recording over old sessions of the tonight show to cut costs. (Some 'Suit' at NBC thought the couple of bucks saved were worth it) Decades of the tonight show were lost. Someone, however, was making an audio tape of every tonight show. They recently came to light, and I suspect this was the source of this audio recording. As VCR's were not commonplace for another decade, I suspect the shows are gone forever.

I have to say Sharon Tate was beautiful and she was a huge starlet and she was amazing in Fearless Vampire Killers, and Valley Of The Dolls and Sharon Tate was pretty and she was in a couple of TV shows and she had alot of friends like Bruce Lee, Jay Sebring, and Roman Polanski loved Sharon and she married Roman. Margot Robbie played Sharon Tate in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and Margot Robbie wore Sharon's outfits and she made Debra Tate cry b/c it reminded her of her big sister Sharon Tate.... RIP Sharon Tate

A truly beautiful actress. I think she would not have made it as a leading lady but would've been a huge personality through the '70's and '80's. I wouldn't say she was a babe-in-the-woods if you look into all the details about her, but who was in 1960's LA?!

She was killed by the Manson family almost to the day 2 years later on August 8th. 1969 I was just born 3 months before the murders my parents didn't live too far from there in Los Angeles. Everyone was freaked out in the area these murders had not been caught. Wasn't until December before they were arrested.
