Hey man, when I have a stubborn restoration like this I use an auto detailing degreaser to remove adhesive and it works SO much better than the alcohol for these types of jobs. Night n day. It'll take all that adhesive/residue off in just a couple of wipes when using just a few sprays of this stuff on a cloth... It's powerful stuff and might damage things if left sitting on there for an extended period of time, but it's designed to wash away very easily so you just wipe over it with the alcohol right after and you're good to go... I've used it countless times on several different components and surfaces and I've never had a single issue. Works like a charm and is a complete game changer. You'll no longer "lose the will to live". Lol... I don't even worry about adhesive or stubborn residue anymore. It's fantastic stuff! Cheers.

I find scrubbing the carbon button pads with first a wet cue tip and then a dry one leaves a nice matte finish that really improves the responsiveness of the button presses. They tend to get flat and shiny over time, which makes them less responsive. It takes some friction to really rejuvenate them.

You guys crack me up. To remove the adhesive from the polarizer , get a bottle of goof off( NOT goo gone). add a small layer of it on the glue. Let it sit for about 10min, add some goof off to a cotton bud and work it in a cirle. Wipe it off then finish with ipa. Hope this helps.

I tried cleaning the motherboard of my childhood GBC, and the speaker was what I was trying to clean and ended up causing some kind of issue to make it sound even worse after I put it back together. I wasn't doing a through clean, I was just using a Qtip to wipe out some of the dust but it didn't appear to like that. I thought I was being gentle... I'd love to restore my childhood GBA as well. If I ever get any soldering equipment maybe I could replace the old speaker in my GBC... maybe get a cheaper one and do the backlit screen mod.

8 recommend Using WD-40 and a plastic card(old Dave and busters card, train card, etc) and slowly sliding it in to remove the polarizer. This is way easier as the WD-40 eats most of the adhesive.

Not too long ago I picked up a DMG style Pocket that was supposedly "broken" -- at some point batteries leaked and ruined the battery contacts, but other than that I don't think it was really ever used (batteries must have leaked not too long after purchase). Button contacts looked pristine. I still need to solder a new battery contact in, but it works for now with a power adapter in the bottom

Why do you use alcohol to remove adhesive? Alcohol doesn't break it down, you might as well be using water. If you have to use that much, that should be an indication that it's not working. Use lighter fluid. It breaks down the adhesive and makes it much, much, MUCH easier to remove. It'll likely only take a couple minutes to get it completely cleaned off.
