Even though it's been over 20 years since these Rareware games came out, they do a good job of not seeming dated, and I'm surprised that these former Rareware employees don't look that aged either.

Good Golly. Thank you so much for finally releasing the arcade game for home console. I was beyond peeved when I found out in 2004 there was a Battletoads Arcade game I some how missed playing when I was a kid. I really am longing for a new entry in the series but alas, the arcade port is the quintessential Battletoads experience people need to remember how fun and interesting this franchise was.

Battletoads is Rare at their finest. What more can you say? And David Wise has you in for a hefty ride for the whole game with his top notch music, which I can't get enough of. I can't stop listening to Surf City; have that on loop every day!

Such a great video. I loved Rare games as a kid. Looking back I never had Battletoads (I may have confused them with turtles which I didn't like), but I had; Wizards and Warriors, Ironsword, RC Pro-am, Cobra Triangle, SNake Rattle and Roll, Super Off Road, Solar Jetman, Wrestlemania. I so wish I'd gotten Battletoads, W&W3 and RC Proam 2, never knew about the last one at the time.

There's a small arcade near me that recently got their hands on a Battletoads cabinet. I didn't even know there was an arcade game until I saw it.

I remember this was probably one of the most expensive NES game when it came out by then (around 80Euro in 1991 standard!) during at time when Super Nintendo came out.

They didn't mention the GBA Battletoads prototype. Which featured the toads with shirts and was worked on for only a week or two or something like that.

I remember this game from my childhood. Games were a Lot harder back then.

I think the reason older games were so much better is they were made by a few people. A few designers consistently. Now a giant team mashes a bunch of stuff together its not cohesive.

Is there an cheat/options menu in the arcade Battletoads? I saw it on AGDQ and it had a screen to change difficulty and lives.

If it were not so hard, it'd be a classic series. It's "classic" feel is only due to us remembering it with frustration and joy. Take out that frustration and you have a winning formula.

Secretly spying and recording players.... ah, that would have been quite illegal nowadays. But hey, I remember the original game way back, and it was the best fun ever. The game was pretty original at the time, cool and dynamic to play, and loads of fun. You could actually die in dozens of ways and laugh.

30th Anniversary of Battletoads (1991-2021)

So, the unreleased Battletoads game that was "heavily rendered" and based off of an arcade game is definitely a Killer Instinct style pre-rendered CGi Battletoads game for the same arcade hardware that was hyped as being somewhat the "Nintendo Ultra 64"? which would then have multiplied the Ultra 64 hype, the hype Killer Instinct generated and added another well established RARE game into the mix... if so that would have been brilliant because if it was a pre-rendered CGi side scrolling beat em up game using Battletoads... it might have had the hype to become very popular once ported to the Nintendo 64 like KI Gold was even though back then some of the Western gamer journalist magazines (cough Edge, cough) started making it seem like pre-rendered CGi graphics was a bad thing instead of just the lame attempts that did not hold up well compared to the well executed games. However I feel maybe the old RARE back then decided to do some heavy duty research into the Nintendo 64 because of the effect Super Mario 64 had as there is still some news station reporter calling it "a 3d cartoon" aka a playable 3d graphics cartoon which I feel was the cutting edge idea a few game developers had in the last third of the 1990s. This is before the more smooth N64 3d shaded graphics that RARE pulled off became the focus correct?

Not one mention of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles even though it was OBVIOUSLY an inspiration given the timing of the game and the personality of each toad.

Hell, if they still have that 4th Gameboy title kicking around somewhere in the vault, and if they would have the freedom to release it... With the current retro craze, I am sure they could have a full on hardware release of it, and it would probably sell well. (I know they would have to create their own boards and cases, but I am sure there are places that still make them, namely one of the companies that release physical homebrew titles...)

Battletoads should be put on the ps4 ps3 Xbox 360 and Xbox one. This will show that rare is a company that produces classic games.

Battletoads was a incredible beat ‘em up I’m hoping for another one that’s full 3D unlike the most recent one also I would love for them to add female toads to add variety to the battletoads also have a 3rd party publisher like square Enix Europe get the rights to the franchise so it can be on all platforms and get a studio like crystal dynamics to work on it.

The one thing that still baffles me is how the hell they compressed the PCM samples in the NES versions? From what I have seen and tried to make the code work, without writing a very specific non returning initalization in NSF terms the music rip is not working.

I have beaten the original NES game without warps or cheats, and it seemed unfair whenever I got to a new level and new nothing about what to do. But that is what differentiates old games from new games. New games don't have the same trial and error. Trust me, the trial and error is WORTH IT.

the main question - is this cart is pal or ntsc version? pal version is fixed but ntsc version had an issue on one level as you know, so if this is just the ntsc old replica of the cart with error, then i guess you should inform about this! or this is ntsc version but with fixed (like pal version had) level? please tell us more!

I loved and hated this game, yes it was very challenging, too much so for most, but what irked me the most was there werent enough levels that took advantage of the really cool beat em up gameplay, the first level was awesome but from then on you only get a few more areas where you can beat on enemies and send them to the moon with a giant boot or fist, instead theres all those levels dedicated to riding things at high speeds with instant death if you hit anything, then there were annoying platforming levels that had you climbing up or going down the whole time, the Ice and Pipe levels just had you dodging obstacles the whole time and dont get me started on that dam giant snake level, I only ever made it to the last level (another frustrating verticle climb but with annoying jumps) but never could reach the final boss. This game gets points for variety but should have been more beat em up focused
