I was a freshman in high school in Anchorage, Alaska in 1991 when the Syclone came out. I remember how awesome they were. A junior in my school had one that his parents bought him as a birthday present for his first car. If I remember correctly he had it about two months before he wrecked it and it was totaled by his insurance. He got it replaced by his parents and the insurance money and managed to keep his second Syclone for about three months which was a month longer than the first one before again wrecking and totaling it. After totaling two Syclones in about 6 months his parents wised up and realized that a Syclone was too powerful and fast and not a good choice for a 16 year old kid. They got him a brand new Chevy Silverado extended cab instead of another Syclone. He managed to keep that truck through the rest of high school but still had a couple minor accidents before he graduated. I think the best choice for that kid would have been the bus because he tended to wreck whatever he drove. Of the 2,995 Syclones built in 1991, I wonder how many are actually left on the road and how many were lost each year?

I still can’t believe that GMC canceled the Syclone for 1992 at the very last minute. I mean they were already heavily promoting it in product videos, literature and dealership seminars etc. only to pull the plug right before it was supposed to go on sale. I never knew why they decided to end production so abruptly especially when the Typhoon came out and was sold in 1992 and 1993.
