The 'Medal of Honor' is the highest award that be achieved in the US armed forces. It doesn't matter what rank you are, even generals must salute the recipient.

All these men are 'the best of the best'. They fight to protect us from very real threats. At an individual level, I think they are so incredibly brave in combat largely due to looking out for their friends, certainly not for money, but I believe the U.S. government should make it so all of them and their families never have to worry about money ever again.

A Marine by the name of John Lejune(I think that is how you spell it lol)won 3 Medals of Honer, the only person to ever do that I'm pretty sure. They named the biggest Marine Corp base Camp Lejune after him. I'm pretty sure he survived all of the actions that he won them for. Alot of soldiers and warriors don't survive threw what they get the Medal of Honer for, I've heard alot of people call them "death medals" but either if they live or die they are true heros, a real life superman in my opinion.

These people fight for your freedom and for your life. We should welcome people like these in the general public as heros because they went above and beyond to risk their life for others and im sure none of you little trolls out there would ever do that. Hey lets take the spotlight away from those who decided to place a base where it was "tactically indefensible," by shifting the spotlight to heroism. I'm NOT taking away from anyone's heroism that was on the ground that day, I've just always noticed that medals come as a result of higher echelon FUCK UPS. I've also noticed death comes with those fuck ups and a severe lack of reprimand for those who made those fuck ups. It's almost as if the military says, "Hey we got two living Medal Of Honor recipients out of this, we should be proud!" In reality, this never should have happened because they never should have been put in that position. HUGE failure on the leadership's part.

we lack the proper infrastructure to expatiate talent to where it belongs. I guess we never learned from History. This is one of the fundamental problems that has been around ever since organized warfare existed. It is a definite imperative nevertheless. Ignorance and incompatibility at this level are critical, and naturally it gets more and more critical the higher up you go. Obama is a perfect example and serves as the pinnacle in US leadership incompatibility and utter ignorance that is extremely dangerous. Just look at how the man chooses his White house security chief. A fucking disgrace. This is highly primitive. The commander in chief doesn't have a clue about national security, yet he is trusted with such a delicate position. This is not just disrespect for those fighting in the front-line, it is a disrespect for the taxpayers money as well. I believe in an aggressive foreign policy, but we fucked up after we defeated the Nazis. The allies went to war over Poland, yet they betrayed them. We should have knocked out the Soviets, but we didn't, and that was just the beginning of a long road of fuckups and fuckups that unfortunately not only haven't ceased to exist, but are now more inclined then ever to have a negative impact on the future security of the US and most importantly of that of the Human race. I remember I was watching the NATO summit recently, and before they decided to go with closed doors, they had a sort of ceremony where they had a soldier for each of the member countries march in with the rest and they went in a sort of a circle around and stood up right in front of their respective heads of state, holding their countries flag. They stood there for a short moment and then they all cohesively withdrew and let their "civilian" "commanders and chiefs" do their talking "behind closed doors" so Mr. Putin wouldn't be able to hear what a bunch of ignorant men and woman are talking about and what shadow war strategy will they be coming up with against the master of shadow war Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovic Putina who doesn't have to close any doors to get the privacy that he needs cause he really doesn't need to have this ridiculous brouhaha that its just one more bitter fact about the bitter reality of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. You expect the countires top Generals to be sitting down together if not without their respective countries leaders, not this nonsense. What does Obama or Abbot or that lovely lady, Ms Melker know about war strategy and shadow war? And last but no least, how the soldier faces a military tribunal which is much harsher and the politicians who can make this military decisions face a civilian court. This is the culmination of this whole pandemonium that these primitives are part of.

I just hope these poor soldiers werent put in thid situation because of bad command and intelligence.. Just seems so stupid.

Oh when a medal of Honor is presented it is the acknowledgement of a greatfull people for heroism already rendered in action. It is not won or given it was earned not as a reward but as a symbol of Honor to a man already possessing that character of service above and beyond the call of duty.

Are you serious? They deserve more than that for doing what they did for their comrades and for protecting the American people through this horrible war. Just one question: Is the government going to assist the veterans in everything they need and deserve when they come home? They cannot live and provide for their family off the medal of honor, even though they have earned it to the fullest, and beyond. We cannot forget that their rations and pay were reduced due to government decisions, among other things. Lets not desert them in their time of need once they come home. NOTE*** Lets not forget that these veterans have seen horrors and have been through horrors first hand. Something that we will never have to experience because of their bravery. And, unwillingly, will have to live with the horrors embedded in their memories for the rest of their lives. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!

They get more than "just" the Medal. All Medal of Honor recipients get a $1,194 monthly pension. Plus there is a 10 percent increase in their retirement pay. They also get to fly on military aircraft at no cost, if there is space available, and they and their families can use military recreation facilities like pools, bowling allies and golf courses. And each Medal of Honor recipient's child, if they qualify, can go to a military academy without having to worry about the quota for his or her state.

I would say most soldiers never wish one day to receive this reward in their lives, not because it isn't honorable but the price is too high. If he is rewarded then either his own live or a few of his friends' lives have to give away.... I used to know a man (in South Vietnam) received similar medal but he lost both arms, both eyes, both legs .... and of course with a few of his men. He just said "thank you for rewarding me this highest medal of honor but sorry i can not stand and have no hand to hold it, i could feel it but no longer seeing it". That was the shortest and saddest speech I have ever seen. By the way, whoever directed this camping should be fired, he did not follow basic things that Chinese warriors have used for thousand of years: good defensive location.

I've talked to a former Croatian colonel who had co operated with US forces toward the end of the balkan war. He pretty much straight up says that US forces are heavily dependant on their tech and more often that not throw common sense out the window due to technical/beurocratic reasons. He also states that Americans are incredibly naive when it comes to predicting the behaviour of the enemy.

I know this is kind of late, but a soldier with the Medal of Honor is given respect among all other soldiers, including the president. They also get an income for life, as well as a favor from the president, as long as it’s legal. Is for ptsd and mental issues, a soldier has to deal with it in their own.

i think the main thing is that the act isnt self preservation, so like a guy can kill 100 enemies, but if hes doing it to save himself he cant get the medal, the fact that the guy pulled out the soldiers from a vehicle shows that he was willing to lay down his life, because most people would have ran out of the vehicle as it was being bombarded with sniper fire

The officers who decided to put this outpost in middle of the hornets nest in low grounds must be put behind bars.

Matthew Alexander Dude are you out of your mind? they lives could have been saved if the planning was done correctly. Why the hell would you make your outpost in low grounds when there are mountains around you? It is not the soldiers fault, the higher officers give them the orders.
