In the trucking world the rule of thumb is to use the same gear downhill as used uphill. Doing that ensures you dont overpower your brakes with inertia.

Got a single lesson in stopping, first time I took my 19 ft. trailer out first time I had to stop, it was down hill, hit the brakes and trailer brake and it pushed me right through the intersection, very lucky no one was coming. Taught me to start stopping way in advance, if possible. Trailer was self contained camper, about 4000 lbs too.

Great video, Mike. Loved your narration. Glad to hear the bucket truck and you were getting the recognition you both deserve. You’re so lucky to have all the brilliant shows where you are. Shows like this are almost unheard of in the uk these days. Almost every Vw show I go to is full of later watercooled modified VWs these days 😔

Hi, Mike Thanks for sharing the Rare Vintage Air VW D Èlegance 2022-whoops the best I've seen🇺🇸💥. Here were a lot of goodies from the early fifties and ad sixties and up I remember a lot of these Beautiful VW`s 👏🏻🙏🏻from my younger days in my Hometown Amsterdam in The Netherlands drove at the time 1954 03 1955 mode at the age of17 years my older cousin owned one of these outstanding Bugs👍🏻💠.I will share this vid on my Facebook site as I did with 2 of your earlier vids, Have a great week my friend, and see you at the next of your video's greetings as usual 🇺🇸❤️🇳🇱☮️🇳🇴from Hubertus.

I hope you can make the trip across the pond to Hessisch Oldendorf I would go but I have to work cant get away.....Once every 4 years and super special happening in a couple weeks.

Yea it is really really a once in a lifetime thing to do. everybody wants me to go. but I cant get my work done in time and the flights are horrendous. Hubertus this might be the only opportunity you have to see it. Health can change in 4 years. You really need to go there. next event is 4 years. and bring some money for the swap meet. I hear it is totally ridiculous rare parts and stuff you never see anywhere.

I'd be guessing but back in the trucks working days it's normal road speed would be 60KPH, around 32 MPH.

What about the oil temp dipstick? It is easy to install and easy to remove. I know you want to keep it kinda stock but no shame in upgrading it a little to make it more reliable and quicker.

2nd. The Berg dipstick temp gauge is a great way to monitor your oil temp and back off if the light comes on.

Great idea; also if there was any way to monitor the rpms it would help to keep the motor around 3,000 rpms and not go over 3,200 when on the freeway.

Yea but you cant back off....you will go to slow for the freeway. it is really a problem. I need to make a spray mister system for the fan intake.

@@Mikefngarage That is a brilliant idea! Never thought of that. They use that at events to lower air temperatures for guests, etc but never thought about it in an automotive application.

Extra oil cooler and cooling fans in engine compartment and no more vapor lock maybe a intake fuel cooler cool the fuel before it gets to the carburetor?????? You would be with vapor lock ...

…also known as engine knocking. If compression ratio is stock, the air fuel mixture is good and the ignition timing is correct knocking is no issue. These engines are made for hours of full power drive. Here in Germany the Volkswagen were advertised as autobahnfest (high way proof). I take my beetle convertible to the alps every year. Never had an issue.

@@Hi_Tec Also ambient temperatures play a big part; Germany is definitely more temperate that Southern California. These motors love operating in cooler temperatures.

oh yea for sure in CA you dont even need a thermostat. engines warm up faster and run hotter.
