I love snakes. At one time, I owned five snakes at once. Two bought, three caught. My favorite was my Columbian Red Tailed Boa. She grew up to be just over 7' long. My other bought snake was a Ball Python. The three that I caught outside were, racing snake, corn snake, and a garter snake.
@drewishaf
@drewishaf 2 жыл бұрын
I never tried to captivate any of the garter snakes or rat snakes that I've come across. For a while I had a gorgeous Grey Banded California Mountain Kingsnake but he escaped while I was on vacation and my dad didn't secure the lid of the enclosure when he grabbed one of the weights off of it. But there was a period of time where I had a copperhead that was an adolescent when I got it. Never was able to sex it before letting it return to the wild. It was sitting by a tree stump and had a cut/infection on its skin about 6" from the tip of its tail. It was strangely docile and I expected it to die within a few days of getting it in the house because I thought it was ill. Turns out that it was just a super chill, mildly venomous snake that was recovering from some sort of attack. It fed really easily, showed basically no signs of aggression at all, and was totally fine after about 2-3 months. It shed once in that time and most of the skin problems were done afterwards. But after showing my 10 year old some pictures of it (and some other snakes that were far too lethal to keep in a house with children) he now wants one. I'll get him an easy species first (like a rat snake or king snake) and see how he does with it but he has no fear of snakes at all. Unfortunately, that means he's more likely to become careless and it only takes 1 mistake to fuck your day/month/life up.

Funny. At one point in time myself and a female i dated/lived with in a 1 bedroom apt had 2 berms that were about 13ft, a 5ft red tail boa, a anerythristic corn snake that reached about 4ft, a 16ft lemonheaded lavender albino retic, a pacman frog, 2 green anoles and a pitbull. needless to say our living room looked like wild kingdom for a good while. lol. my 2 berms and the lemonheaded retic were by far my favorites ever owned though. used to take walks around local park and girlfriend would have the pitbull and I would have one of my berms or my retic around my neck and having a snake that size made walks soo piece full being that if anyone would be walking towards us they would immediately cross the street once they realized what was wrapped around my neck and body. comments I would get from people were funny enough to make you piss yourself because of how freaked out they'd be. mind you I live in Pgh,Pa so not many people around this city walking around with a 13ft berm or a 16ft retic. the retic did make walks a bit of a challenge though just because of its size and strength so one of the berms were usually my go to choice simply because the berms were easier to handle.

@Kieran johnson($igma M) first off snakes can't be tamed. they may become a bit more docile in containment but you can't tame a snake. if your even planning on acquiring a black mamba (not even sure you can buy one legally if your not a herpetologist) I hope you have years of handling snakes like a black mamba and are a actual herpetologists cause if not we'll all be seeing your ass on the news. Headline will read man found dead on living room floor due to multiple bites from black mamba. I know people who breed snakes, venomous and non-venomous and even they wouldn't want shit to do with a mamba whether it be a green or black even with the years and years of experience in handling thousands and thousands of snakes those people have owned.

The Stormtrooper morph hasn't grown past the few individuals that were first created. It's a shame too---they're gorgeous. I breed ballpythons myself, and have had quite a bit of luck with paradoxes and ringers. I also have a yearling Champagne Calico, that has a huge paradox marking on him. Paradox isn't supposed to be genetic, but it seems to be happening to me. (Jan Griffiths).

So I’m a snake keeper and a couple of these facts are a wee bit off. Here’s some more info! It’s pretty rare for a reticulated Python to cost over $1,000 , mine was $150, most go for around $150 to $700. Also, iridescent scales are relatively common in a couple species, like the Brazilian and Colombian rainbow boas and the white lipped python. 2 headed snakes are also not that rare at all. If you watch channels such as snake discovery or brian barczyk you’ll see quite a couple.

Your getting some damn good prices on retics then. granted a basic retic dont costs that much but some of the morphs can costs a pretty penny. hell I paid $1200 for a lemonheaded lavender albino retic about 15yrs back that was about 10ft when I got it and it was bought from a guy I've known for years that breeds snakes. he's actually given me a few snakes that would've otherwise cost me $150, $200 just because of how many reptiles I bought from him. took me about a month to talk him into selling the lemonhead but eventually I broke him down and was able to aquire it from him. was one of the most gorgeous snakes I've ever owned that's for damn sure. honestly regret not having it skinned when it passed because of how beautiful it was plus the fact that it was about 16ft when it died. tried getting him to sell me a albino monocled cobra but not matter what I did, what I said or what I offered to pay him he wouldn't sell it to me or anything else venomous for that matter simply because at the time I literally had no experience with venomous snakes in anyway whatsoever.

We have those gliding snakes here in Phil. They usually live in mango trees. Everytime we hear loud crashing sound in the rooftop, it's usually that snake trying to escape another snake of their kind from the tree gliding to the roof. Usually it's no bigger than two fingers though, but it's very long. We used to play with them as a kid. They don't have fangs but they do have small serrated teeth.

It's always a delight, and an educational experience, to watch videos like this that are about rare species of animals and whatnot… especially when they're narrated by this guy! For some reason, his voice is oddly satisfying to listen to! Perhaps it has something to do with him sounding so much like Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) from the Netflix series, "You"! But anyways, I digress… did the picture of that green snake at the beginning of the Secretive Serpent portion of the video (@19:37) immediately make you think of Kermit the Frog?! 🐍

I’ve kept over 100 snakes, and some were outstanding. The Macklot’s Python is incredibly iridescent (my profile pic is my friend Mickey (RIP), and he looked like a moving rainbow! Another snake I had was a D’Alberts python, golden phase, also very iridescent. For an incredibly gorgeous snake, check out the Rainbow Boa.
@ArmadaOne

Wow that rainbow python is incredibly beautiful. There are quite a few snakes that have that shimmer effect that make them look like they are colored even though they are black and simply reflect the light off their scales in such a way that they look colorful but I've never seen one that had this light refraction so intensely and dramatic as that python. That may truly be the most beautiful snake in the world and considering some are truly stunning that's not a small feat to pull off.

Thank you for that excellent video :) I adore snakes, as do many folks commenting here. For about 20 years I kept snakes as pets (before I met my wife who does not care for them at all). And yes, I've been bitten more times than I can count. The only bite that ever really concerned me was that of a pygmy rattler, though a tiny snake it had some memorable venom (and yes, I survived the ordeal). No snakes now, but we have some adorably stupid cats so life is good.

As a snake person, don't get venomous snakes without experience. When someone gets bitten by a venomous pet snake, it goes into ALL snakes. And don't get me started on how cruel rattlesnake roundups are. Always do your research before getting a snake

@@Voidbear_FNaF_and_Undertale yeah I know..I was joking about wanting them all. They are all beautiful, but I'd never own a venomous snake because I like to hold my pet snakes.

@@sherriewilson2020 When a venomous snakebite occurs, all snakes get a bad rep. Those out in nature are slaughtered by yahoos "protecting the public" and those in collections may be confiscated and destroyed. Venomous or not. Also, restrictive laws/regulations/permitting_requirements are just waiting to be enacted, typically to bolster the careers of legislators and animal control entities. Irresponsible owners of hot herps are universally hated in the relevant communities.

I had a albino garden snake in my back yard, he was there 2 years in a row. I did t even think garden snakes lived that long, or even be albino. I have looked since and learned any animal can be albino, or pigment disorders. Still I have never seen another like it since

I think you mean garter snake, which can definitely be albinistic, even melanistic (black). They can live for 15 years, in captivity at least. I've had some live for that long. (Jan Griffiths).

First off snakes are not mammals. Mammals are warm blooded. snakes are reptiles and are cold blooded. second you can't tame a snake like a dog. just because a snake is a pet does not mean it won't ever bite and try to coil up around you (assuming it's a constrictor). lots of people have sadly lost their lives due to their pet snakes basically crushing them to death. obviously something like a ball python thats only 2ft long more than likely won't be capable of killing someone but if you have a berm or a retic that's 8ft or larger well then needless to say they can squeeze the life right out of you and if your alone well your screwed because chances are likely you won't get out of its coils. look at the havoc that berms are causing down in Florida. those berms are pretty much killing everything they come across. they are not native species to the US and don't have any natural predators (and are strong as hell, I know I've owned 2 that got to about 13ft before sadly dying) so their population is rapidly increasing year by year down there in FL.

The presented albino cobra is actually a leucistic one. You can tell with their eye colour albinos will be red as they have no pigment in their eyes just leaving the visible red blood vessels.
