In this video, we’re going to address some outstanding issues with our screen size from our Mac 512k build by changing the overscan settings on our Raspberry Pi. As a bonus, we’re going to take a viewer recommendation on ways that we can get our mini vMac emulator to use more of that available screen real estate.

So helpful! Very grateful for your walkthru on fixing the config file to control overscan area. Was frustrating the heck out of me.

Just want to say thanks for the info on how to adjust the border. I finally got that border off the screen and my Pi is now right to the edges almost of my monitor and looks a lot better.

Hey, the days of CRTs were magical! Not dark times! Being able to get a Commodore 64 and a cheap Samsung TV ( yes they making TVs way back then!!) was the difference between having or it having a computer in the house. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thanks for the info, I have an old 10” combo TV/VCR and my Pi is not displaying at the very top of the screen for some reason. I’m going to have a go at increasing the overscan. Also, that morph from same position to same position was amazing.

That's still so dang cool. If one of my "classic", compact Macs is ever hopelessly dead, I'd love to do something like that. At the moment, however, they're all running relatively well in their original builds, and I certainly do not wish them to die LOL.

I feel the same way about my Mac SE. It's a great machine and I hope it stays running for a long time. Interesting side note, I just got the SE about 2 years ago, and it's the first and only Apple computer I've ever owned.

@@Operation8Bit Cool! I actually just got my SE about two years ago as well! Traditionally, I was mainly a PC guy growing up. Collecting vintage Macs has gotten me into more modern ones as well, so now I use both Macs and PCs each day.

So give your opinion then, which is better? Mac or PC?
@BollingHolt
@BollingHolt Жыл бұрын
@@theharbingerofconflation That depends on the user, the era of the machine, and the intended purpose. Also, sometimes that question is better stated which OS is better...

When I was using RetroPie, I was able to change this with boot/config.txt, now that I"m using Raspbian, it ignores all of that entirely and constantly makes titanic sized black borders around my CRT... -.- Super annoying; hopefully this guide helps... lol

What would be great is to be able to add a CRT filter to the emulator like you can in retroarch. It would be awesome if you could be able to control the "overscan" that way and even mimic scanlines and screen curvature you get on real Mac CRTs.

I now want to make a mac emulated by a raspberry pi like that one. However I don't want to destroy an existing Mac to do this. Can you buy Mac shells? I did some web searching but only found a kickstarter selling transparent mac shells, and a bunch of modern iMac shells for some reason.

I'm not aware of of any sources for empty Mac cases other than finding a dead one used on eBay or Craigslist. There was a post on the Hack a Day article from someone that said he had a dead SE that he offered up if anyone wanted to do the project. Not sure if that is still available though. MacEffects make new transparent shells for the Mac SE/30 and Apple IIGS, but they are quite expensive for a Pi build. I'd suggest compromising on an old CRT display and hacking a Pi to fit inside.
