In this video I show you the method I use to preserve the bare metal and the patina on the Rogue Rat Rod. We look at some options to create different effects, depending on the look you are after. The treatment effectively prevents rust and oxidation on different metals and is very easily refreshed.

“Patina Sauce”… I just bought and used it. Works great
@ratrodsafrica
@ratrodsafrica Жыл бұрын
That is not available here in SA. Could ship it in, but the boiled linseed oil is cheap and works very well for me. Maybe it's even the main ingredient in "Patina Sauce"?

I bang that mix into a cheap HVLP spray-gun and use it to spray it on - you can then run a rag over the flat sections, but the spray gets the oil into every nook & cranny, preventing those hidden areas from corroding. I have the gun marked as "Mix" & only use it for that. It's a real fast way of doing that ^. :-)

Thanks for your clear explanations. I really like your channel. I have two questions: what if you applied linseed oil but later you have to weld something there. How do you get the bare metal back so you can weld it? Second question: Will the linseed oil also protect the metal enough when the car would always be parked outside, so it gets wet from the rain frequently?
@ratrodsafrica
@ratrodsafrica Жыл бұрын
You could probably weld right through it, but I would clean the spot with a flap disc or wire brush first. I have had cars at outdoor shows for few days where it rained overnight. No problem. But for cars standing outside, you will probably have to reapply quite often.

Is S.A. a dry climate or humid? Another KZfaqr I watch has a bare metal '36 Chevy and seems to need to strip and reapply clearcoat quite often but it's humid here in Southern Ontario. 👍🇨🇦

We have many different climates within SA. Brian Where I live (Garden Route area) it can be quite humid, but further inland in the Karoo it is very dry. Personally I hate clear coat, its just a pain! The linseed method works much better for me.

Yes, I am interested in purchasing 2 "BullShit" meters but at a range of 10 Fecal hZ, because it does get quite deep here in steer, cow & Bull country! Please share a link to you skeleton hand headlamp holder as well as the spider web & spider assembly. These things maybe useful if asked to run for a government office. I hope to scare them off as I run away from the DC government here as most of them sleep in coffins and come out to govern and make laws to spend money on bugs, butterflies and bait fishes! Thanks Dov. Enjoy also, I do. DK, Omaha. P.S. when you stop hearing from me, it means I am no longer among the living. 😮
