I love how everyone laughs when he enters, expecting to be entertained, then he does such a chilling, heart wrenching performance. Wow!

We need a David Lynch movie version of Cabaret with Raúl as Emcee.

By this point everyone has been beaten down and there is raw emotions coming from all the characters. I can understand why the audience laughed when he entered if they are not familiar with the story. I had the privilege of sound designing for Cabernet at Kent State University and I loved being in the theatre every night mixing this song live being sang by a great actor and singer. Make no mistake this is a very serious scene and he sings with a great deal of pain.

I saw the show many years ago at the old Studio 54. I had just had my first Broadway audition and that night before I came back to Canada, I went to see the show. Raul had just taken over Emcee and the gal passing out the Cabaret hand flyers at the TKTS booth in Times Square said not to miss it. It was the first time since Alan left, that someone who took over the role could actually do it justice. I still remember how haunted I was when Raul came out and sang this. When the show ended, I had to sit for a few miniutes before I could get out of my seat. It was one of those memories that will last my lifetime.

I wish he got more recognition for this role. He was really good!

His facial expressions and mannerisms seem odd here but they are not meant to be seen with a telescopic lens. They are meant to be seen from the center of the audience.

@TheNadieboo It's a warning ( as Sally particularly) not to expect too much commitment- this should come as no surprise to anyone who has known her for 5 minutes, of course. But I guess it also has wider reference to a time when maybe alot of people thought they'd better hungrily and greedily, as it were, experience a lot of things quickly before the opportunities vanished with the new political times.

Yes it was an amazing vocal performance...i love raul in so many things he does...but he dosent suit the EmCee, his voice is far too rich...Allan Cumming is the only EmCee for me.. Raul is the best Bobby by far and an awesome George in Sunday!
