Hello tube of YOU! I just wanted to show y’all how easy installing an aftermarket radio can be! This radio was put in a 2012 Toyota RAV4. Different vehicles have similar installations, but may require different modules. All products were bought from crutchfield.com. They make it easy to, just input your car/truck in their system, and they’ll tell you what you need to install. (I’m not sponsored, but that would be amazing. I spend hundreds here.)
Welcome back or Welcome if this is your first time! My name is Smithey and this channel focuses on mainly trucks: maintenance, how to’s, instructional videos, tech videos, and some travel. Stay tuned for more videos and subscribe to follow along in my journey! Enjoy!
About Me: My name is Joey Smithey. I am 31 years young. 12 years down in the military, 8 to go. I have experienced the housing crisis in California and I enjoyed it so much I am doing it again in North Carolina. I have lived in a truck before, a cargo van, a 2008 4Runner, a travel trailer, and now about to build out my 2012 RAV4. I will be converting it periodically and will be posting videos of my progress and the adventures that are soon to follow! I hope you enjoy!

@@HoratiusXXL Das Kenwood 5020.

Didn’t you use to be able to buy install kits where you could just clip the old and new harness together without clipping and reconnecting wires?
@smitheys
@smitheys Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s a little different now. You can buy them put together, but you’ll have to pay extra for them to do the crimping for you… not worth it to me, but if you have the extra cash I say go for it.

Do you know what part of the wiring powers the aux port behind the gear shifter. I recently installed an aftermarket android radio with a wiring kit and my aux port does not seem to work properly anymore

@smitheys - which wiring for the power and speakers did you use? I have found the other parts for my 2011 RAV4 that have been shown in the video but not sure about the wiring for power and speakers mentioned. 3:15

I have a 2011 RAV4 with the Factory JBL premium system and was wondering if it would be possible to swap out the JBL unit for the Factory Toyota NAV system that was optional on the RAV4’s?

It’s just anything else you want to add to it. Could be for overhead/headrest monitors , subwoofers, amps, etc. I didn’t use those ports, I just tapped them off so them wouldn’t ground out on anything.

Where did you put the microphone in the car?
@smitheys
@smitheys Жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, just go to eBay or Amazon, type in your radio and then microphone. That question is hard to answer because I don’t know what type of radio you have.

@@smitheys He meant where did you install the microphone in the car. I'm guessing you put it on the A pillar?
@smitheys
@smitheys Жыл бұрын
Oh, wow! Yeah you did. Sorry about that, Michael. Thanks Bryan for catching it. I read it quickly and most people ask where I got things, not where I put ‘em. I put my mic right on top of the steering column cover, kinda towards the speedometer. That way it picks up me and it doesn’t pick up any other noise. The A Pillar would be a good option too, but I roll my windows down and the mic would pickup the wind noise up there. The speedometer kinda makes a dome for the mic. Hope that makes sense.

Hey man! How much do you think it would cost for me to pay for a professional to install this? Thanks!
@smitheys
@smitheys Жыл бұрын
Hey Mark! That’s kind of a tricky question because every shop charges different prices and it also depends on what you bring them to install. My advice if you don’t want/don’t feel confident is buy the radio from Best Buy because they usually offer free installs with purchase. If you buy the radio and harnesses, crutchfield has packages for each vehicle to get everything in one shot, then you have to find an installer. Some shops charge anywhere from $80-$200 an hour. Most shops SHOULD get it done in an hour or less. Hope this helps!
