One of the most sense making story is that sage vedavati who has taken into sanyas while she was Virgin.... she went into deep meditation to increase her knowledge and power At that time Raavan had had just met with lord Shiv and was coming back after being humbled by his lord..... he saw the lady in meditation who looked very divine and touched her wanting to have her.....(this is metaphorical, however to say it practically he mostly molested or abused her) as soon as he did that she woke up and cursed that she will come back to ruin all his efforts too.... and she turned into ashes......Raavan being a Brahman collected the ashes to submerge it into the seas.... but he kinda forgot in between all the other shenanigans happening around him during his travel..... he takes the ashes with him to lanka and his wife mandodari holds the container.... after few months of ignoring it they hear the sounds of a child from the container .... An astrologer comes by to check on this and also with a news that there is a prophecy that the new baby in the palace is going to be the end of the kingdom.... as soon as raavan hears that he tells his servants to cross the sea and bury the child alive as soon as the reach the land..... they do so and after few of months of earth bearing and raring the child King janak found her .... he was doing a ritual to increase the fertility of his kingdom and wife and Sita was like a boon who brought more four girls to the house In one sense she is ravans daughter since his deed led to her formation and mandodari and the earth did kinda shelter her for some time Ha ha make jokes. But I'm being serious here. It's important to understand that to some people this is history, this is Culture but this is also a lot of Literature. It's filled with beauty, metaphors and hidden meanings. I said it made sense cause that's how I see it. Because there are so many different texts it depends on us what we choose to think or believe. Here in some communities in Nepal, Ravana is believed to be father of sita.Once in nainisharanya area of lanka thousands of rishis were in meditation. Ravana, king of lanka ordered his mens to collect TAX from those rishis. due to this rishis became angry and instead of tax they gave split of blood of each rishis to ravanas mens. when ravana knew that he didnt knew what to do and he secretly put that blood of rishis in secret place. But, ravan's wife mandodari drink that resulting she became pregnant. And, from mandodari maiya sita was born . but later ravana's men's brought and left maiya sita in mithila state jankapur of nepal.from where raja janak found her

According to me the most authentic ramayan is valmiki ramayan, and I don't think any character like maya sita exist. If Lord ram already knew, ravan plan, then this means no searching of mata sita was done everywhere on earth is by wanar sena of sugriv and hanuman ji since Lord ram already knew where she is, and also then if Lord ram already knew about it, why didn't he stopped jatayu to fight ravan and get killed. Also then jatayu giving him information also becomes useless. Also you cann't call agni pariksha as a way to bring back mata sita, it's her divine purity and undivided love for Lord ram, which makes her passes that agni pariksha. For her Lord ram was everything. Also Lord ram gave ring to hanuman ji, so that he can give it to maa sita in lanka, if it was maya sita and not mata sita, Lord ram will never given his ring. He can give ring only to mata sita, the true incarnation of maa lakshmi, not to anybody else. Also calling mata sita, daughter of ravan, is a condemn of pure father daughter relationship. In Sanatan (hindu) culture, no father can see his daughter in wrong way, no father can put bad eye on his daughter, maa sita as an incarnation of maa lakshmi, can never born to such an monstrous man(ravan) . If there's any confusion just read the oldest Ramayana, which is Valmiki Ramayana. There's even lot of difference between Valmiki and Tulsidas Ramayana. For example, in Valmiki Ramayana real Sita DIDN'T switch with Maya Sita and another example Hanuman Ji DIDN'T carry gada/mace.

Incorrect! Some 40+ years ago, I had read in one of the ancient religious Hindu book (I do not remember it's name today), as follows - Mayasur had three daughters. Elder one he got married to someone (& again I do not remember the name of that person). With other two daughters, he was wandering in Jungle. During this time, his 2nd daughter Mandodary, got pregnant & delivered a girl child there after. This girl was left in fields & Mayasur moved away with his two daughters. The girl was found by Raja Janak and was named Seeta. Later Mandodary was married to Ravan, making Seeta Ravan's step daughter and making Ravan Seeta's step father.

There are so many versions of the Ramayana, but the Valmiki Ramayana is the orignial and the authentic one. We must not deviate from the orignial. If it not in the original, it is not important to us. Only Maharishis Valmiki's Ramayana must be honored. The rest are but imaginations. If a story was important, the Maharishi who wrote 24000 verses could have in a stroke of brush included it. Any dilution of the Ramayana from Valmiki's version will dilute our religion. For artisitic and creativity purposes , one can enjoy the stories, but none of these extra stories should be taken seriously

That story of Yama not able to come to Ayodhya is very nicely depicted in Devdutt Patnayak's book named Sita... I always get fascinated by the story, it so nicely imagines concept of multiverse.

Ramayana is believed to be written during the Treta-Yuga whereas, Ramcharitmanas was written during Kali-Yuga in the 16th Century. So the Authenticity of Ramcharitmanas is still in doubts because it was written after a very long time of the actual events.
