I'd love to hear your thoughts on Esa-Pekka's take, as you mentioned this was the most "delicate" version you've heard. Coz I was revisiting this particular Ravel's piece that I've heard 20 years ago and just this week I was going through my old mp3 (and this was from a compilation of Classical Music - so I don't know who was the conductor, but France Symphony Orchestra - I love it, so bright and a bit more dramatic), but when I went to KZfaq and found Esa-Pekka's, I found how vastly different it was to my ears to the one I had "ear-memory" off for years! So very delicate, like a calm breeze all the way through! IMO, beats this version as I felt the French Horn opening felt rushed a little, like all in one breath kind of feel? Its also mastered wonderfully, no instrument gets lost and they sound as clear as possible. Its often that they are mastered in a way where delicate sounds get lost😢

Have you heard The version by The Montreal Orchestra conducted by Charles Dutoit? It's absolutely magical. But I also love their version of The Mother Goose Suit and Daphne and Cloe as well.

Même sensation ultra-profonde. La cheffe d'orchestre montre sur son visage qu'elle vit cette oeuvre merveilleuse de bout en bout. Enfant, je jouais tout le temps la Pavane sur mon orgue Bontempi, et toute la famille écoutait religieusement. Remerciements éternels, Monsieur Ravel.

Stasevska conducts the Pavanne as one long, continuous line - a single breath singing, with the ebb and flow of the feeling of loss in the sound. Amazing conducting - this piece expresses the gentle heart of true melancholy, something extremely rare in modern Western culture. Bravo to Ravel and Brava Stasevska.

Pavane pour une enfant défunte... c'est triste, mais, c'est beau, il suffit de l'écouter en fermant les yeux, et vous vous retrouvez dans un autre monde, loin des turpitudes de la vie d'aujourd'hui, la musique classique est avant la télévision, le meilleur des médicaments pour empêcher de penser à ses malheurs. 4:43 the moment my heart got full of joy. You can clearly see the happiness comes into her face as soon as the music release the tension (caused by the minor chord), and receives "hope" as the major chord comes. It's pure art! (Sorry bout my English, guys, I'm Brazilian!)

I love this woman conducting...expressive, emotional, and she understands the importance of being able to use her face to communicate so even in the Year of the Masks she knows she has to be seen in order for the art to work properly.

Delicateness, peaceful, melancholic, soft, romantic. Words I could possibly use to describe this work of art by Ravel. Especially the part starting with the flute. Perhaps one of the most beautiful and romantic compositions in the history of Music.

Cette introduction au cor est une pure merveille qui enchaine sur une orientalisme mélodique envoutant . Ravel musicien exceptionnel des syncrétismes musicos. Très belle interprétation , même si j'ai un faible pour celle de Michel Plasson avec l'orchestre de Toulouse. Merci de faire vivre une telle musique

A french classical piece that inspired a brazilian jazz guitarist (The Lamp is Low - Laurindo Almeida) and then sampled by a japanese hip hop DJ (Aruarian dance -nujabes). You gotta love how music travel accross cultural boundaries.

Não conseguiu segurar as lágrimas é tão linda e melancólica, faz você sentir uma especie de nostalgia, meu professor falava que existe dois tipos de música aquela que te transporta para um lugar na fantasia e aquela que mostra a realidade.

Wunderschöne Aufführung dieses impressionistischen und fein komponierten Meisterwerks mit farbenreichen doch perfekt vereinigten Tönen aller Instrumente. Die geniale Dirigentin leitet das hoch funktionelle Orchester im fließenden Tempo und mit sorgfältig kontrollierter Dynamik. Echt hörenswert!

Je décris Ravel (et aussi Debussy) comme la "musique Art Nouveau". Pas de grands effets de manches, beaucoup de douceur et de "courbes" et des couleurs instrumentales magnifiques qui racontent une histoire et parlent à l'imagination.
