How is taylor swift video about women empowerment when you dissing another female artist?

Nicki isn't complaining she was just stating her opinion. She has broken the vevo record 3 times and both first times she was never nominated for 'Video Of The Year' and she never complained about it. This was her first time stating her opinion and I think its dumb people are calling her 'ungrateful' or 'bitchy' just cause she was expressing her thoughts. Nicki definitely did deserve to be nominated. You can't just say 'its not their cup of tea' cause these nominations are suppose to be on facts, not opinions. And the fact is, Anaconda had a huge impact on the media and pop culture. The song went #2 and the video had 19M views in under 24 hours. She was not dissing Taylor but simply stating if she was one those white pop stars, she would've been nominated if they broke records like Miley and Taylor. Do I think Bad Blood deserved a nomination, yes I do. But if that is so then so does Anaconda.

Rihanna has mentioned it MANY times already! She is NOT A ROLE MODEL nor does she consider herself one. It's not her job to teach these kids what and what not to do. That's the parents jobs not these artists.

To all the people who are saying the content of Anaconda makes it unworthy of the nomination, Wrecking Ball won last year? Both were controversial, impacted pop culture, and broke records. Anaconda had countless memes, parodies and think pieces about it. Even Madame Tussauds are releasing a wax work with the Anaconda theme. Why are we so disgusted by a black woman showing off her body in a provocative manner but not a white woman? Even if you take the race and body shaming issues out of the equation, based on the stats and impact alone Anaconda should have at the very least been nominated. Really the competition should be between Anaconda and Bad Blood - and even then I think the latter pales in comparison in the entertainment factor. Bad blood was entertaining the first time whilst Anaconda had that replay quality. Also I'd like to point out that whilst there is definitely an over saturation of sexually explicit imagery/material in the entertainment business period, Anaconda is a very clever video in terms of its aim at the male gaze and its presentation of curvy women.

People need to realize that the Video of the Year award is not about *quality*. It's about, frankly, the VIDEO OF THE YEAR. Wrecking Ball won last year because it was EASILY the most impactful and memorable music video of the year 2013. Everyone knew what happened in the Wrecking Ball video, and even if they didn't (which was rare) they'd at least heard about it and knew of the controversy. It deserved that award. Anaconda is in the *exact* same boat. When Anaconda dropped, it, for one, broke Miley's VEVO record, which should have gotten it a nomination right off the bat. Along with that, it had immense cultural impact, even *before* the video was released, the single cover became a meme on social media. The video was easily had the most prominence of any music video released that year. Bad Blood may have gotten more views (it broke Anaconda' record), but not even *it* had the impact that Anaconda did. Bottom line, Nicki should have not only been nominated for VOTY, but in all honestly, she should have won. Bad Blood, and I'm not knocking Taylor because I love her, only received the hype (smaller than Anaconda, I might say) because Taylor capitalized off of the feud between her and Katy Perry (not empowering at all) and lined up a bunch of her awesome celeb friends to appear in the video. That being said, she's obviously going to win, but Nicki was completely right for standing up for not only herself, but making note of the bias black women have to deal with in the industry if they're not Beyonce. Not knocking Bey either, we *all* know she should have won Album of the Year at the Grammys, but instead she lost to a white man who's album was deemed worse than hers by critics, sold less, and had no impact whatsoever. Sorry for the essay, but I just felt v strongly about this.

BUT when Nicki came on the show they were all buddy-buddy with her. Raven gets on my nerves. These people don't understand that music is about how it makes you feel, not about how "holy" or "gracious" it is. I'm sorry but that era is over. Women are empowering themselves through sex, the one thing that men want from the, and showing men that they don't need a man to feel good. Also...look up recent Beyonce pictures, she's not even THAT thick. Music is music. If I want to listen to the raunchiest songs EVER, ONLY, I can, and sadly (cause I know people want others to feel bad about themselves) that WONT make me a bad person. If it is one thing that Nicki Minaj has taught me, is to not be a follower. Even if people bash you and call you fake numerous times, you keep on grinding and doing your thing because at the end of the day, you'll be winning and they'll be talking about you instead of winning.

I love raven but nicki, out of anybody has shown great diversity and balance, she's not just shaking her ass in every video. She has gone from super bass, to chandelier, to feeling myself. She knows how to entertain while giving you all of herself, especially in her last album. I do think at the end of the day she was just a little salty about the nomination, I don't know how that stuff works but maybe there wasn't enough spots and a lot of great music. I think one thing she was commenting on is that whenever she's nominated and wins it best female rapper, or best rap ______. I think she's just wants to be seen in the spotlight and be a contender with everyone else, and if not her another female African American voice or mc.

The whole Taylor Swift video being ''empowering'' really isn't the case Raven. Bad Blood is about Katy Perry, Taylor was dissing Katy, so how is that about empowerment? Also why does female empowerment always have to be females wearing revealing clothing? There's empowerment in everything like education, confidence, being a good person and working your hardest. Anyway I just think Nicki didn't understand why Anaconda wasn't up for the award, when the song was famous in pop culture. There were memes and parodies of the song. Even Ellen had a parody and there wasn't one made for Bad Blood.

Revisiting this segment about Nicki Minaj and her anaconda video I find it to be very interesting that since 2015 most of the female artists and videos have surpassed the overt sexually explicit content that Nicki Minaj has put out and no one has a problem with it. I believe that Nicki was within her rights to speak her mind about the double standard and as the most successful female rapper she is held to a different standard than that of her peers.

They got it all wrong. First, Nicki was not okay with her video not being nominated to best video of the year, not because of the "skinny" women on Taylor's video but because her video hit records, made a huge impact on social media and yet she wasn't nominated over a video that has less or same potential as hers. Because she deserved to get nominated TOO. Because same as Taylor Swift's video, Nicki's video was very well produced, had tons of views (which is something the VMA crew should've considered) and spoke about how women are free and independent. And manly because Nicki was pointing out RACIAL ISSUES, not a competition between females. Raven, and the other girls should've read carefully Nicki's tweets before opening their mouths without knowing the facts. This is probably one of the most sexist and misogynist things I've ever heard someone say. "We don't always need videos are naked that way" That's slut shaming. The only thing we need here, is talent to be recognized no matter if its's about naked women or women with clothing. And here talent wasn't recognized (As Nicki claims) because she is black and Taylor is white. Because both videos had potential but coincidentally the VMA crew decided to choose the one with the white girls instead of the one with black chicks although the one with black chicks had more or same chances to get picked. Not because one was showing booty and the other wasn't, which isn't also a proper reason to judge the videos, but because she is black and taylor is white. Also this isn't a competition. Nicki was pointing out racial issues, not intending to fight with someone who considers feminism only applies to her and not to black women.

What pisses me off about this entire discussion is the fact that everyone ignores the biggest factor of it all... Not just gender or race... But the genre. Does anyone notice how not more than one rap video, if that, can get a Video of the Year nom? It's pathetic. I'm a huge Beyoncé and Nicki fan, but even I think Nicki should have been nominated over Bey. 7/11 was good for what it was, a sporadic cute look into what an adorable gem Beyonce is. But it didn't break records. It didn't even push the single into the Top 5 on the Hot 100. It wasn't THAT impactful. But it was a pop single. Not R&B and certainly not rap. Do you want to know why Nicki got nods towards the rap and female categories? Because then she was allowed. Rap is her field.. Of course she gets a nod. There's no other prominent female rappers, so why not throw her in as the one "rap nomination" for Best Female Video? But when it comes down to hashing out the biggest award, it's like only one rapper can make the cut and that was Kendrick Lamar this year. It's complete bullshit and everyone just overlooks it as no big deal. It proves that rappers can break the barriers of pop music with RAP and still not be acknowledged unless it's allowed to be acknowledged by their genre or their gender. When it comes to the big awards... You're fucked if you think your rap song can stand side-by-side with another notorious rap song for the biggest award. No, that's only one of you. It's so so so sad and I can't figure out why everyone is essentially ignoring that? But I won't even get into why "Alright" is nominated in the first place when it just came out, it's not nearly as good of a video as "i" and it doesn't touch "Anaconda" in terms of legacy. I'll just chalk it up to Kendrick being this year's "it" man of rap and the awards people think he's cool because he collab'd with Taylor.
