We are describing our travels to Ravenna in 1999 and 2001 (including the 9/11 day spent there) . In 2001 one of us took a mosaic course in the class of a local artist Luciana Notturni. This 41-min. movie is uploaded in 3 parts, about 15 min. each. Because we are also showing Nureev's mosaic tomb monument at the Russian cemetery near Paris, we extend our special thanks to Tatiana Borisovna Marette-Floroff for her showing us this cemetery in 2007.

Wow , I came across this video from Pinterest. You have rekindled my memories of Ravenna and Luciana s course. I also did this course. Loved every minute of it. Always wished I could go back and do a portrait course. Love Ravenna and Luciana miss you very much. Lydia xxxx

I felt as if I were there. LOVED IT! I cried when you were told about the towers. We all need to be reminded of the evil in this world and it's beauty. Wasn't the mosaic carpet over the grave site something? Without YOU in combination with the internet, I would have never seen such beauty. I humbly thank you from the bottom of my heart. I pray all see this video for what it is, compassion for others. Wanting to share a slice of life you may not otherwise get the opportunity to experience. May God bless and keep you well. Always remember beauty.

You know, I wanted to make fun of the old footage and the voice overs, but actually it was a really fanatic film! You did a great job, it was fascinating and well constructed throughout. Thanks for uploading!

Eliezer Rabinovich yes, I did. Definitely fantastic! It's such a beautiful place, probably the place I would most like to visit in all of Italy. I'm a history student but here in australia we just don't have that much history, certainly not of the sort you can't help but trip over in Ravenna. Just thinking about the food and the scenery makes me want to go down to the airport, slam my credit card down at the Qantas desk and head off there today...I think I'll have to settle for spaghetti and meatballs from the local takeaway place though :) I have to ask, what did you end up doing with your mosaic? You really have an eye for film making, with a little work on the cinematography I think it's something you could do professionally.

'The process has not varied for one millennium though conception and design has started using new technologies such as data processing".(Zellige craftmanship WIKIPEDIA/zellige). I have discovered new techniques in processing zillij.My techniques are simple and do not require any particular expertise and results in quicker production and a smoother, lighter table top or panel as no cement plaster .And doesn't require iron edging means we can use other materials, such as trimmed with wood or bull-nose tile Furmah ,mosaic motifs,hand cut from "any ready made tiles "(7 to 8 mm thk) ,we prefer low sheen floor tiles (rustic or monochromatic color) My style ,has an "outline"between each motifs ,so it looks more "crisp". The video is too fast --- how about adding some music instead of the commentary which is totally irrelevant and hard to understand? Ravenna deserves much better than that.
