Hawai'an slack key guitar uses many open tunings - Open D and Taro Patch (Open G) are very commonly found. Most modern sets of guitar strings are manufactured to hold tensions at E Standard, but the DADGAD sets from Santa Cruz Guitar Company's Parabolic Tension line of strings are specially formulated for optimal tone, playbility and sound when utilzing the different tensions that result from open tunings.
