The guest was talking about the killing and burning of Osofo Asare in Kumasi. I was returning to Kumasi from a visit to Accra on the very day Osofo Asare was killed. When we arrived in Kumasi, the incident was still active or in progress and the Soldiers had blocked the road from Amakom to Kejetiah. Our Neoplan Bus that we traveled on was redirected to take a detour through Asawase to Zongo. And we were forced to carry our luggage on our heads to walk in a long straight line to Kejetiah where many had to catch their next vehicles to their homes or their home-towns. In fact, shortly after I arrived at Kejetiah, having walked all the way from Zongo with my luggage on my head, a handful of Soldiers went wild on rampage, ordering everyone to vacate Kejetiah before dusk. Luckily, I was able to find a Trotro to go home before too late. But I did see one Soldier who was surely drunk and hitting passengers with the butt of a Gun to quickly get unto their Village- or Town-bound trucks and leave. The story behind the killing of Osofo Asare is that there was a Major at the Kumasi Second Infantry Brigade whose wife was attending the Pastor's Church and supposedly having an affair with the Pastor. At least, that is what the husband suspected. Whatever was the truth in that case is left to argument. However, the Major resented the wife's persistent attendance to the Church and had demanded that she quit. She did not. So, the Major decided to go to the Church to forcibly drag the wife out of there. He was reported to have been drunk and physically assaulted the woman. The Pastor and some of his Youthful congregants then descended on the Major and beat him up in response and the Major was killed in the process. Some of the Church members claimed that the Major was threatening them with a Pistol. So, it was the death of the Major at the hands of Osofo Asare's Congregation that engendered the reprisal of the Second Infantry Soldiers to retaliate and finally resulted in the shooting of the Pastor and his body burnt. Other members of the Church also died in the reprisal. I also agree with the guest on his account of the bad blood between Boakye Gyan and J. J. I have given a similar account elsewhere. It was the Ex-gratia accepted by Boakye Gyan and others that started the animosity between him and J. J. and eventually led to the execution of Kyeremeh Gyan, Boakye Gyan's younger brother, who was, incidentally, my personal friend at KNUST and Tema. He was executed alongside my Grand-child, Joe Gyekye, and Gyiwa. Obeng Manuh died of natural causes at Berekum after a long bout of sickness. Obeng Manuh had started off as a staunch PFP advocate and supporter. But later on he came to support J. J.'s movement in a way but not necessarily defect to NDC. He had partially, at least, retired from active Politics when he died. Appiah-Menkah did something criminal. Period! He had duped the Chiefs he represented in the Western Region, taking much of the money that was due them as a result of a litigation over their land. That was why he got entangled in the web of the so-called corruption busting by the Revolution.

Why are some Ghanaians so keen on making Rawlings a murderer? We've had series of coups in Ghana, blood had been shared but it seem like those had been erazed in our memory but rather focused on Rawlings? Is it because he is the only living military President alive? What difference does it make in our present Ghana economy and national growth? Am not that grown but was born before this issue. My late father may his soul rest in peace who was an engineer when Akosombo was built, first black engineer when Norcem was established in Ghana, was arrested for the coup that was used to overthrow Neman, even though he was in Norway at the time of the coup, yet held nothing against Jerry. As an ex-serviceman he stated as what this man is now saying. Can we look for Ghana's growth than relieving our past, yes it is history but it not helping our present economy.

It covered greed, indescipline , coverups, eacape, deception, courage, ethics, love of nation, selflessness, unintended victimes, inocent people used as scapegoats and families lost of loved ones. He was part of the revolution. I wasn’t expecting him to say bad things about a group he was part. This is just one side of the story. The revolution had a leader and all the happenings were headed by someone. You can’t say NDC government did something without directing it to the President. All these guys had good intentions but also used same system to destroy lives.

I was thinking the same.. In fact none of the living military victims mentioned this man's name as being part of them. If you listen to the interview of Capt Awuni by Andy, this man wasn't part of Giwa, Adabuga and Co who were arrested. If I agree with you, is likely he was a spy soldier for Rawlings who was sent to prison and later exiled to leak Informations.

The revolution may have had its good and bad sides, but you cant absolve JJ completely from all the excesses. People were killed, people went missing, people fled from the nation (exile), and people were maltreated. In the end, the question we should ask ourselves is whether the revolution was worth it. Did Ghana turn into a developed nation at the end of the JJ's tenure. From what i know, when Kuffuor took over the country, he had to render Ghana HIPC in order to help us deal with our financial woes which may have been concealed for a very long time due to suppressed freedom of speech. When you listen to most people who tell their side of the story, they say the revolution did not achieve its aim.

I am always so disgusted when I turn on a Ghanaian TV program that has its title written in English, but only to discover that it is narrated completely in a Ghanaian language. I am a Liberian, but because of my two grown adopted Ghanaian daughter and son, I am highly interested in Ghanaian affairs, especially the culture and politics. What I find frustrating about the whole thing is that, usually, the host and his guests are all very fluent in the English language, but choose to jump back and forth between the English and the Ghanaian language. Why don't you choose one and stick with it? If I get to know, for example, that you will be discussing the subject matter exclusively in your local language, I won't waste my time on that particular program.

Everybody knows Amartey Kwei did not master mind the killing of the judges. He was an unfortunate stooge. A fall guy. Braimah, if someone asked you at the time (especially a low ranking civilian PNDC member) to go and kill someone, would you go and kill him? If Amartekwei had asked you to go and kill someone, would you go and kill him? I’m sure the answer is no, because Amartekwei was a civilian and not of the stature nor power to command someone to do such a thing. That would require someone with higher power ie Rawlings or Tsikata. I have never watched a video of Amedekah. But no doubt, he is an intelligent man and soldier, who would not take such an order from an ‘idle civilian’. It is well known that Tsikata gave the gullible Amartey Kwei a message written in military cipher, which Amartey Kwei, being a civilian, would not understand to be given to Amedekah. But why don’t you say what was in the letter you burnt? That would save us a lot of hustle. Of course no one can say Rawlings ordered them to kill anyone apart from the Tanko you mentioned and the people whose death warrants he signed. Rawlings, behaves just like a Mafia boss. Only he knows the big picture and he tells everyone part of the story. He always talks in parables. ‘Take him away’ means go and kill him. If you take him away and let him free and come and report, he will tell a more trusted person to ‘Take him away and show him what the first order meant’ and he will take you away and shoot you. Another code used by the soldiers is ‘Do him Mafia’. You yourself have mentioned one I hadn’t heard before’ ‘...sort them out…’ So by this simple means, Rawlings (learning the US mafia bosses) escaped accusation. I know that mafia books and The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli was regular reading among the PNDC leadership around the time.

This man is truthful. He is honest. Good command of the English language. He should come and live in Ghana to live in peace. It also shows that Rawlings is ignorant of many things he is accused of.

At least for once you’ve brought someone on your program to educate people in Ghana not like the one you were asking people if they like straight or crooked? Virgin or broken? How do you feel now about this educative interview Kofi? You see how you were happy and relaxed during this interview?

The way some of the Soldiers treated civilians president Rawlings time was very bad they took the Law into their own hands as he said. Those who killed and treated civilians very bad that time, if they still alive they still suffering right now. I think he is telling the truth.Sometimes if something happens and you don't have truly witness is very hard that you can defend yourself.

The truth always stands I remember during the truth and reconciliation commission proceedings a lot of people alleged Rawlings had done things against them but could not substantiate their claims... it turned out a lot of atrocious acts were committed in his name by people and soldiers with their own personal vendettas against others. Some committed these atrocities in the name of greed or because the opportunity was there and no accountability. I hear the Kweku baakos parade hear say so convincingly as if they were there. But here is a this gentleman who gave a clear account and chronology of how things happened and clear to see. None of these accusers can for fact determine if Rawlings gave the orders even though the perpetuator cleared Rawlings

June 4th was not everyone’s redemption day. The fact that Rawlings was not present at the executions does not absolve him of involvement. The dyers hands will always be stained by the elements he has to work with. Let’s call a spade a spade.
