I find it funny that Bulgarin lived a few blocks away from Packie, where Niko visited alot, I guess Bulgarin's men were either blind or did not know what Niko looked like

Righteous, and Dukes was the only borough that Niko didn't get a safehouse in. Also, in the mission "Boulevard Baby" Roman and Bulgarin were both in Maisonette 9, but they never met.

Many people dislike the not so serious Bulgarin in TBoGT. But he was still intimidating (more than Dimitri) and not a joke like Pegorino tbh. I mean he just acted nice with Luis and still chopped a guys head off and killed a whole NOOSE group. Even the Commission respected him.

So, I'm Russian, and I can explain everything about Ray to you. Yes, his surname literally means "Bulgarian", such a surname is possible in Russia, most likely it will mean that his ancestor, when he received the surname, had Bulgarian roots. But there is another option - Ray Bulgarin can be a gangster nickname. For example, one of the most powerful Russian "thieves in law" was called Yaponchik (Japanese). Ray was a slave trader in the Adriatic, and Bulgaria is not far away, so it is easy to assume some connection with it, for which he could get this nickname. And in general, russian can not have the name Ray, it is 100% a pseudonym.

On his brief appearance in GTA IV, Ray Bulgarin appeared to be a very serious and evil character, an image that was further reinforced when you learned the trade he was in: human trafficking. Your typical sullen mob boss that you don't even want to look the wrong way. Then TBOGT came in and you see him playing air guitar with an AK, playing rock band and headbanguing with a bodyguard, making a silly dance while imitating instruments, constantly being yelled at and insulted by his sister, getting all palsy-walsy with someone he just met and oozing insecurity about his masculinity. I wonder if the huge tone shift on his image was on purpose.

Yeah. I was also surprised by the contrast but hey when he's with Niko he tries to be menacing, with Luis he's just being himself but he still likes people getting killed, he is misogynistic, he is ok with hurting children, thinks he can buy people and enjoys shooting people, he even shoots her sister so to me he still looks like a pretty disgusting person with 0 morals.

I'm far more entertained than I should be with Ray's voice actor. It sounds like he's choking on English when gets angry. I can't vouch from much personal experience, but you can sound similar when exclaiming in a foreign tongue. I think the guy did a great job missing the inflection. "I'M NOT A FAGGOT!"

He says it because Luis kinda implies Ray is coming onto him a bit when he reiterates that his and Tony's relationship is strictly business. While Ray was just interested in Luis' potential. So the second he thinks Luis is calling him gay he gets enraged. Because Ray is very homophobic and seems digusted by homosexuality and Gay Tony.

He was threatening and dangerous to Niko because Niko had no friends, no connections that could protect him. He isn't so threatening all around, but if you're alone in a big city, with people you can't rely on or trust, Niko was really vulnerable

The Packie one is almost Endgame's length! Packie video: 2h 54 mins approx Endgame: 3h 2mins *There are longer videos of his that exist in his channel though which is his video on Lamar Davis and Lazlow which exceeds 3 hours by a couple of minutes, the Lamar Davis one being the longest I've seen

I love what they decided to do with Bulgarin’s character for TBoGT, it shows him that he has a lighter side He’s not just a one-dimensional bad guy who’s only evil just because we need a bad guy, they actually gave him a personality

Haha, I love Ray Bulgarin. I know he's an antagonist, but I love his mannerisms and personality that Luis sees. I kind of wish it was possible to work more for an arguably reprehensible person like Bulgarin in a GTA game instead of mostly every character having a conscience and going against them for one reason or another.

46:04 what Packie said to Niko may have been potential foreshadowing. "You're not meant to say what you wish for out loud. It won't come true if you do." However, even if Niko wasn't the one to kill Bulgarin, his wish was half-granted when Luis ended up becoming the one to do it.

Ray was interesting character and killing him felt good for all he did to Niko and Luis, although I would prefer Niko killing him since Niko had always worried that Bulgarin will come after him, with or without Dimitri and I would prefered a gun fight with him and then finishing him.

I think the main moral of GTA VI is that our lives are largely made up of random events that we can't control. We can't write our life as a play, writing everything from beginning to end as we want. All we have to do is find our place in the chaos, constantly falling from our mistakes and rising again. Actually, the unifying story of Nico, Johnny and Louis is some random diamonds, which in the end will be accidentally lucky to find some random homeless person.

@@koleszgdanska7149 uhm actually just because the ak47 fires 7.62x39 doesnt mean its better,its stories of not jamming are not true and thats especially true for the original ak47,the m4a1's 5.56 deals with over penetration,etc 🤓

I always wondered why Bulgarin wasn't the main antagonist of GTA IV... It would have been better for Niko's story arc.

Bulgarin was the one who had the main beef with Niko, not Dimitri.

Yeah, but Dimitri took all the scene from him and also Pegorino wanted to get into the contest too. It's wasn't a plot problem but it could have been better to make a clear 1 antagonist in the story. My choice would be Dimitri and that's why I preferred that ending (although there is no more bowling :c ).

@@shingatsu5061 Deal ending makes more sense to me because it's most logical one : if Niko won't obey Pegorino it's his Mafia + Dimitri's people that will mess with him and brother. And also final fight and chase are more intense and more pleasant looking, no Roman here, just Niko and Jacob. Too bad that logic ran out halfway through it, because there is no fucking way that Niko at this point in the game with all friends and their help wouldn't trace Dimitri after another betrayal and instead will let him run free, only to mess with wedding. It's just Dan "the hack" Houser decides to make both endings with bad outcome and forget about all character development Niko went through, despite that one is significantly better than another.

During Roman's Sorrow one of the dialogues has Roman say they'll get to him to get to Niko, basically foreshadowing his kidnapping.

Interesting fact about the name "Bulgarin", it means Bulgarian(Bulgaria) and the voice actors are pronouncing it perfectly because bulgarian language uses strong "R"s like Russian and almost all Balkan countries. When I first started watching GTA IV videos I was shocked to find and hear that "Bulgarin". Awesome game!

At first I hated how comical they made Ray, but after a while I liked the contrast. And it seems like he was trying to get on Luis' good side and eventually hire him to go after Niko. That is, until he found out about the diamonds. His comical, yet villainous tone was interesting. He reminded me of the joker kind of. Although, I found it weird that they had 2 crimes bosses named Ray that had last names that started with a "B."

It would make sense to hire Luis for a job like that. From what I see ray talks tough but doesn’t personally have to much experience fighting. If he did he woulda came up with something more then just holding a grenade in his hand as the last straw

He most likely thought he will kill Niko himself, but since he didn't, he got into another problem, which is Luis and Tony having the diamonds.

True, it was that. Bulgarin didn't know where Niko was exactly. I notice he lived in the only borough Niko didn't get a safehouse in(Dukes). Plus he never met Roman which explains why nothing happened in "Boulevard Baby" while they both were in Maisonette 9.

50:50 is one of the hardest mission I've actually had to play smart. Even with explosives, I still struggled. Then again, I was a bit younger when I played the mission
