It seems like the common thread of all the giants in music is the connection between them and the audience. Ray could have sang the cooking directions on the side of a pizza box and people would have sat and listened. His voice and charisma were that powerful.

Met and talked to Mr. Ray Charles at the used to be Campus Inn, in Ann Arbor Michigan. Wonderful Man. Still has his autograph. A Mark on a piece of paper.

Helped a friend take his piano in at a concert in vail. Hilton rented the piano out in the vail valley and Aspen. One of the best shows I ever saw.

My first record by Ray Charles around 1955 was "Leave My Woman Alone"+"Lonely Avenue".I still have it but my dear old mother hated Little Richard Penniman.I saw both of them at the "Frolics Ballroom" in Allentown,Pa in 1957 plus Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis.Went in the US Army and met Elvis in Ft.Hood,Texas+Germany.I was really lucky.Also saw the Glen Miller Orchestra at Dorney Park with singer Johnny Desmond around 1980 and he died shortly after.

@ASSANE NDJAYE yeah, about 3 I think. A WHOLE LOT of singers covered Rays material. But Ray made the most money off of Elvis doing them. Elvis put a lot of bread on Rays table. Renald Richard co-wrote some Rays hits, and he had interesting insights about this. He said they received royalty checks whenever different artists covered he and Rays songs, but none of the money they received from other artists singing those songs came close to the amount of money he and Ray made when Elvis sang them. He said Elvis was so popular and so many people were buying up his records that the royalty checks he and Ray received from Elvis's versions were usually 8 to 10 times more money than they received from the other singers doing those same songs. 8-10 times more.... Damn. That's a lot of $$

TheWinterShadow There was nothing special about this performance other then maybe some nostalgia. yes he has a great voice but other then that there is really nothing. Just like in the time when songs like these were written there were good and bad artists. While we have our lil pumps we also have our adeles and Sam Smiths. Anyway its your opinion but just saying that artists now are worst then a while back is just wrong

PatrikVlogs - Here is what is just wrong...you stating your opinion, which in your mind is justified but other people's opinions are wrong. A lot of people could careless about Adele or whoever. With that, "this" video is about Ray Charles, a blind man, who despite an obstacle wrote amazing music...and he didn't need any upscale video and glam to do it. But then, everyone has an opinion but okay, lets leave it to the people. In regards to pop music, I am willing to bet more people would think that music of the past was superior to the music of today, period....and who cares how much money they make and tokens someone gave them.
