I'm not worried about the "Sorry Eddy." For one thing, Eddy can take criticism. And, secondly, Ray would never criticize in a mean way. He would only mean to offer constructive notes, and hopefully any students that play Sibelius will also benefit from Ray's comments. It's like a master class in a way to hear Ray's thoughts. I'm sure he'd never mean anything he says to be hurtful.

As Ray stated, Sibelius is such an incredibly difficult piece. There are serious pros who do not play it perfectly every time. Despite some imperfections, Eddy gave us a good performance especially for his first attempt of this amazing concerto. I can only imagine how Eddy will improve in the future performing this piece, I hope he continues to practice it. Ray gave helpful masterclass tips. Eddy never promised a flawless performance, nor did most of us expect it. My feelings about Eddy's performance remain unchanged; I really enjoyed TwoSet's 3mil performance and I will definitely watch it again. I am glad that Eddy had the courage to honor our request and perform this masterpiece concerto, looking forward to their 4 mil performance.

This is exactly what I was waiting for: a world-class violinist critiquing a Twoset performance. It gave insights into the piece which less educated ears wouldn’t have known. Ray is such a supportive friend, I’m sure the two guys appreciate his pointers. Great job, Ray! Please do more of such comments about TSV. The probably know and agree with your comments but would be educational for us! Love your performances!

Same, I really appreciated the constructive criticism that Ray gave in this video. His experience as a soloist who's performed this piece countless times is invaluable, Eddy (and the rest of us watching) basically got a free master class ! 😄 I also hope that this video will help some TwoSetters to have a better-adjusted view of Brett and Eddy's violin level. Don't get wrong, I love TwoSet and what they do (I mean, look at my username ! 😅). But it bothers me to see some of their fans treating them like semi-gods. Brett and Eddy themselves don't like it. Of course, they enjoy getting compliments because, when you're an artist, it feels good to see people appreciate your work. But they're always embarrassed when their followers put them on a pedestal. As fans, I think it's important to try to be as objective as possible and to keep our critical faculties.Yes, Brett and Eddy are hard-working, talented, smart, etc... Yes, they have a successful career and are respected in the classical community. But no, they aren't world-class violinists. And it doesn't matter at all, we love them as they are, with their strengths and flaws. To me, that's what being a real fan means. That being said, I was genuinely impressed by this livestream, which was even better than I expected. They both were much better prepared and less nervous than for the Tchaikovsky. Seeing Eddy playing with so much passion genuinely made me emotional, and Brett's accompaniment was top notch. I can't wait to see what they'll cook for 4 mil ! 😊

Yes, I totally feel the same way! Ray definitely acts like a big brother, probably because he knows Brett and Eddy since they are teenagers and is proud to see how much they've grown (musically and in general). As for Hilary, she's always happy to spend time with them and share her experience. It's kind of cute actually to see the appreciation they have for each other. Brett and Eddy look up to Ray and Hilary because, well, they're among the best violinists in the world. But at the same time, Ray and Hilary are very appreciative of everything TwoSet makes to help spreading the love for classical music. They don't consider themselves "above" Brett and Eddy; they are just four people, genuinely passionate about what they do, and each one of them does his/her best to bring something positive to the classical world. 😊

Let us not forget the fact that Eddy is not playing on the 'soloist' level violins. He still manages to produce such beautiful music, one can only imagine how good it would sound on an actually great violin (not saying that his violin is bad, just saying that it would be so much better on a soloist's violin)

Twoset videos introduced me to you, and I remember thinking, 'wow, Ray is a world-class soloist but he is approachable, funny, and humble.' I'm not a violinist, but I enjoy watching your videos and getting a little insight into what it must be like to achieve such an elite level in musicianship. Wishing you the best!

There's no fjords in Finland Ray... I think Eddy captures very well the mental landscape of the piece - finnish nature and emotions. His tempo is correct, you should not play this too fast. For me the beginning sounds and feels like you are alone in a wintry forest when it snows in the dark. The snow and snowing softly enlightens the dark and muffles away all sounds. Time doesn't matter. You can feel the tranquility, silence and beauty around you and in you. Yet you are alone but somehow connected. It makes you feel warm although its freezing and cold. But then the icy wind breaks the athmosphere, and like in life, you struggle to wander home.

I was really happy when I watched the live stream and saw Eddy's performance. He said he had more time preparing for the drop and the live stream just proved he'd practiced it a lot. I had goosebumps tbh. I don't play the violin and don't know much about music theory or anything, but I had so many feelings then. And G, seeing Ray react to the drop is even more InTeREsTInG. I feel so much respect for all the musicians who have put effort into classical music and made it more relevant to us. Thank you guys, I love you.

I'm a finn like Sibelius was so this is a concerto I've heard played so many times and so many ways. One of my favorite things about this piece is actually that I feel like it provides so much room for artistic interpretation. Different violinists bring forth different emotional focus. Some are more wistful, others desperate, others nostalgic, angry, even mad. And so on. One thing that I feel many great violinists/directors actually discard is the umh... Reflective, slow, dreamy quality that the composition often dives into. I've noticed many violinist feel like they need to play certain parts super super fast and without stops - and hey, I'm not a violinist so maybe that's what the notes tell you to do!! But I gotta admit, I really enjoy the versions with more patience and prolonged notes and pauses, where the melody sometimes quiets down and for a while you almost feel like the orchestra is falling asleep from how dreamy and deep inside their thoughts they are ☺️❤️ I think twoset did this thing really well. Tranquility.

Thanks a lot for this video, Ray, it was both informative and enjoyable to watch ! 😊👌 I really appreciate how you focused on the most difficult and/or beautiful passages of this concerto and brought your experience as a soloist who's performed it countless times. Eddy will be happy to hear your compliments about his playing, and at the same time I'm certain than he will be very grateful for the pieces of advice you gave to help him improve his rendition of this beautiful piece. And of course, your comments will also be helpful for all the other violinists looking for guidance while they're practicing it. Awesome video, thanks again ! 🤗

I've always thought of the Sibelius concerto as like three different winter scenarios. 1.) The first one is like the beginning of a film, where it's snowing heavily but gently, and everything just gradually comes into more focus over the course of the movement. 2.) A quiet, clear, mellow winter's day. 3.) You're driving your car in white-out conditions and have no idea where you are on the road.

I watched the performance my eyes closed and Eddy captured our melancholy state of mind perfectly (I'm a Finn). That's the thing about music. It speaks to people, and when it's done with emotion and passion, it's just incredible. Then there is the technical side and it's always interesting to see someone with excellent skills to constructively assess what has been done. So it was interesting to first just listen and appreciate and feel (I did cry too because he just captured the emotion so well), and then watch this a month or so later, and see what made it so difficult and where he could still improve. Thank you for this reaction. :)

Thanks Ray for reacting to this. I've listened to Eddy's playing many times... and listened to you + orchestra as well. This concerto just 'gets to me'. I particularly like Eddy's interpretation of this piece. He plays it with such energy and feeling, almost squeezing it out of his instrument. Small wonder he was whacked at the end. "Encore" someone asked. Some hope there! Thanks to Brett & Eddy, I'm now 'full on' back into classical music (a non-musician) and increasing my musical knowledge.

I was really astounded by how much went right during Eddies performance. I guess by now we all know his strenghts and weaknesses as a performer, and we do know that he is not trying to be a concert violonist. But for a performance among friends, and that is what I would label his community, it was really, really good. It would probably take him another year of intense practice to get it flawless. But that is just not worth the effort if you don't plan to play this publicly for money.
