Ray Chen Violin Solo in What Could Have Been (Ft. Sting) from ARCANE || robworks1

I recently got the chance to watch ARCANE, and man, what a show. It was like my heart was getting broken at the end of every episode. The animation was impeccable, and the music, written by Alexander Temple and Alex Seaver of MAKO, was incredible. This was one of the big songs, played at the end of the last episode, and I loved it so much. I actually heard this song before watching, and this was definitely the thing that pushed me over the edge to watch it.
The video is from the Video Game Awards, and so is the audio, but the transcription itself was from the album recording. There are a few differences, one being the more polished nature of the album version. But, I'll leave a link below to the live performance so you can watch that version.
Other than that, this transcription was really fun to do. Usually I stick with saxophone transcriptions, because I understand it a little better, but violin sounds really good. The other thing with this transcription is that the music doesn't quite match the transcription in some places, specifically with the smaller notes. In the original recording, I think he drops out, but I can't quite tell because of the background strings. But, in this video, he joins them and plays the cues.

I half expect him to burst into flames on that solo. It’s so beautifully intense. Heartbreakingly beautiful.

I see people comparing the 2 people on stage, and roasting sting. You have to keep in mind that while sting is a good singer (in my opinion) Ray is one of THE BEST violenists in the world. The gap between the two of them isn't because sting is bad. Ray Chen is just that good.

I mean they also lowkey inted Sting in this performance because they had these vo-coded backup vocals, I guess to make it sound closer to the album/show version (to be clear, this isn't against the vo-coding, I think it actually sounds good in the original and gives the song a lot of character) but that takes away his ability to play with the metre like imo he was clearly trying to. And yes, Ray Chen is just unbelievably flawless here, it's hard not to look imperfect next to that

@@nayjer2576 you know that every band/singers except a few ones are better on albums than in live because live it's a one-shot attempt. And Sting/The Police is known to be way better in studio than in live

@@olivierdesgagne3763 it's not bad, but it's also not better. like @Nayjer previously said, Ray Chen played a part off key and it stands clearly out, simultaneously the singer is singing a bit too fast, like he is trying to hurry his way through the song which ruins the mood while listening.

This violin piece is so hard, even the original master Ray Chen cannot always do it perfect wow.... but the original Version was pure perfection... it cannot happen in real life though

That's what I'm guessing as well. Going through note by note, there are a few more mistakes or mispitches, but the majority of it is very well done.

I actually kind of cringed on the amount of false notes here :P Mostly in singing but also in violin solo. Now I need to listen to Arcane ost version to fall in love with this song again ;)

I think its just the sound editing on this vid to make the background pop out more, which screws up the main vocal track. The actual performance sounds fine. Just here the echo or whatever doesn't sound like an echo anymore and makes it seem off.

Damn Sting sounds terrible here. He literally shouted those high notes. I understand that live perfomance is hard and Sting is quite old, also maybe he didnt hear himself properly, who knows. But the fact is that he was shouting those notes. Ray Chen is incredible. I dont know anything about violin, but that last part was very intense.
