Ray Davies of The Kinks was interviewed by my friend who was a producer at a local TV affiliate on 9/9/81 in Denver, CO at McNichols Arena. Kinks management was surprised Ray wanted to do an interview, as it wasn't his usual practice. I went along cos I was/am a big fan and got to ask a few questions. Ray was witty, informative and talked about current things, like the newly shipped Give the People What They Want, as well as his historic past. Chrissie Hynde, his lover at the time, was at the soundboard, never filmed. The Pretenders were opening act. Part 2 finishes the interview and starts the soundcheck.

Ray is my favorite song writer. The Kinks have some of the best songs and albums of all time. God Save the Kinks!

The term 'National Treasure' is used so freely these days that it's lost it's impact, but if one writer is truly a national treasure it's Ray Davies; his songs exude Britishness.

OMG.. THANKS FOR THIS POST.. IT WAS AMAZING.. BRILLIANT INTERVIEW FROM ONE OF THE GREATEST MINDS, SONGWRITERS OF OUR TIME.. RAY DAVIES.. THIS INTREVIEW COVER SO MUCH GROUND IN TERMS OF THE MUSIC, THE LYRICS AND THE INSIDE HEART AND SOUL OF THE BAND..DAVE BEING THE HEART AND RAY OF COURSE IS THE SOUL.. WOW THANKS SO MUCH.. I LOVE RAY AND THE KINKS AND HAVE HAD THE HONOR TO MEET HIM TWO TIMES.. ONCE IN 69 AND THE OTHER IN HIS SOLO CARREER IN 96 OR SO.. HE IS WAS SO BRITISH AND CHARMING AND SWEET

My husband and I went to this concert on one of our first dates. Maybe this event has a wee bit to do with the fact that we married and are still together after all this time. Hmmm?

I’d have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Ray and Chrissie Hynde fought like cat and dog. Telling Dave to shurrup, gave me a glimpse into how loud Ray Davies can get
