Fun Fact - Jim was so timid to begin with he would sing behind a darkened curtain while the band performed without him out on stage. It's only when he peeked his head through to the stage a few times receiving screams from girls in the audience he gathered up enough confidence to come out and perform with the band in person

Ray is one of my all-time musical idols. He was a creative genius. In fact, all the members of The Doors were geniuses. That band was like the Beatles, four exceptional men who were fated to come together by a higher power, in my opinion. All these years later, their music still stands up as strong and as interesting and unique as ever. The world got robbed when Jim Morrison died. He was only getting started, and he had many more wonderful songs to come.

He's a great storyteller as well as a great musician. I think it's pretty funny how they formed as a group so effortlessly. Normally bands go through a good few line up changes before they get the right people. Love Ray's personality, very positive. RIP.

Amazing how two UCLA Film Students started a Band and met two meditation students Robbie and John and the Doors were complete! I think it was Destiny! Morrison was writing poetic songs with No Music. He couldn’t play an instrument and yet he found three guys who would flesh out his songs! Amazing! And Krieger wrote Light my Fire 🔥! The first song he ever wrote became a huge hit for the Summer of 68. And it put them on the map Nationally. I love how Ray explains the Doors songwriting process. They were a real band with everyone contributing. They had musical chemistry which is a rare thing to find. It made them so good and unique. They had their own original sound and style. It’s why they are one of the Greatest Rock Bands of All Time! And Morrison was one the best singers of All time as well. He could sing Blues and Rock and Ballads equally well and he was a Crooner, too! RIP Ray and Jim

To me, he was the Keeper of the Flame who kept the Doors legacy alive, and he unapologetically epitomized the zeitgeist of the 60s. Thanks Ray, RIP.

Well I’m gobsmacked. Never seen this but I have said for decades that Ray Manzarek is the voice of The Doors. One can listen to him all day as he speaks eloquently and intelligently with passion and love for his subject. Since the passing of Jim Morrison he never once, not once in any written or spoken word changed his message or opinion about the group that was his life. Genius.

Ray and the Doors were Awesome. I saw them in 1967 in Covina California at the Carasol Theater, the stage turned 360 degrees. In my opinion, they are in the all-time top 5 bands of all time.

I was blessed to have seen Ray and Robby play front center at barricade for Riders on the storm...2008 To this day one of rhe most meaningful concerts of my life. We was very personalble and kind with audience...just like he talks and shares in these videos. Manzarek was the George Harrison of The Doors. His talent and contribution to same just grows bigger over the years. When you see and listen to him, it's hard to imagine he was the heart of the and outside of Morrison's singing, was the main reason Light My Fire was so great.

I love his voice. So pure. I will always remember you here on earth my brother. Rest easy & be happy.

I will never forget seeing Ray Manzarek at the upstage in Port Townsend. The most mesmerizing part was watching him play The Crystal Ship on the piano. I was on the second level so I could just look down at his hands as he was playing and he had the most amazing natural flow about how he expressed the music. Towards the end he fielded questions from the audience about the Doors and answered them. Absolutely unforgettable!

Ray was such a beautiful and enthusiastic guy. He is missed.

Ray's left and right hand coordination was second to none. No rock keyboardist of that era could play left-hand bass so proficiently. He never depended on the "glitz" of the Hammond B3 and Leslie. Try playing the bass line and organ intro to "Light My Fire"; or the bass line and "rain-run" in "Riders on the Storm". Very difficult!

The way Ray goes back to the intro of light my fire and Stretches that particular intro over and over again into more complicated internal for the sound of the song is something that you could never ever stop listening to in other words I could just listen to him continued into the song where the song Never Ends because he's that good on the keyboard...this guy blows me away the doors were fantastic I Wish Ray was still young and blonde again I would kiss him a million times over! rainbows hashish and never stop playing that keyboard 💋

Cool keyboards and he was a cool guy for sure. Very smart in so many ways. That was a very brilliant introduction. He under-estimates himself. There was medieval influences as well. There was a fusion thing going on!

The Doors were before my time, and became my favorite band. Now, my oldest child is a Doors fanatic while my youngest has taken piano lessons for a couple of years now (hoping he’ll learn some Doors’ tunes). I had the opportunity to see them on a tour in 2003 (The Doors of the Twentieth Century). It was awesome seeing Ray and Robby…John was dealing with health issues at the time, so they had a fill-in. The music is timeless, as Ray put it.

Morrison & Manzarek reunited again. This is a HUGE loss, for all modern music, how will this gap be filled once more. But what he says in the beginning of this video, O I WILL FOLLOW those words forever. THANK YOU, so much, it will live one forever. RIP, bless you. THE PLACE IN AFTERLIFE IS WELL DESERVED.

DEEP story for me. Wow - 1968 - the first affordable home stereo systems, I was in 8th grade, just getting over a year of the drum solo in innagatadavida on the pocket 8 Transistor - and along comes Light my Fire. One of my first albums. I am so glad you shared the dope. Will look you up. Stereo sonic placement was finally perfected in 1974 by Steely Dan, but you guys were the local L.A. Lizard Kings.

Ray was the embodiment of the 60's and an amazing raconteur.
