Suspense & ESCAPE [remastered]

6 жыл бұрын

Here's another great "Movie for your MIND." It's "Strangers on a Train" from Lux Radio Theater. I listened to it recently so I thought I'd pass it along. Ray Milland does a very good job as the pro tennis player trying to get a divorce from his estranged wife. Frank Lovejoy does an excellent job of playing the weirdo psychopath "Bruno." Bruno hates his father because Dad wants to send him away to a nut house (where he really belongs) Bruno hates his dad so much he wants to kill him, then he convinces himself that Ray Milland must want to kill his wife. Bruno suggests they "SWAP MURDERS" and thinks Milland has agreed to participate! This is definitely a Hitchcock story and even if you've seen the movie, that's okay. If not that's okay too because this is a pretty good adaptation all by itself with great actors. Instead of the climax on a high rpm merry-go-round as in the movie, they come up with a different one for radio listeners. The sound has been digitally remastered so it sounds great.

Thank you for listening to my uploads, thanks for subscribing too! There's a good bunch of loyal subscribers here, and quite a few are disabled. I, too have my problems (severe cervical & spinal stenosis) so like you, I have a lot of "down time" One thing I've noticed, is those of us who are disabled are exceptionally intelligent! :-) You are only the 2nd person I've known named Roxanne in my life! I've always liked the name. Please post comments as often as you wish, and I'll always respond (eventually!) - Charlie

Nicely done. I’m seeing the Hitchcock actors in my minds eye. Ray Milland is quite good as Guy! He sounds as convincing as Farley Granger certainly was onscreen. Really fine work here.

Every now and again Ruth Roman's voice reminds me of Carrie Fisher's voice. Also Ruth Roman became the target of Alfred Hitchcock's scorn on set of the film, as did Tippi Hedren on set of The Birds. Sounds uncannily familiar 🤔 to present day Hollywood. Ps Ray Milland was a fabulous actor and voice actor.

Thank God for uploads like this! When America had RADIO. The UK still has it. The great BBC. The US, not at all. Exception NPR. But no radio dramatisations as we had, some v. good. Some thrilling. I remember the last one I heard. Then, it was over. Stupid America.

Suspense & ESCAPE! My pleasure &, like you, I purchased a while back some good (truly) old radio shoes on both audio cassettes & CDs, both UK & US. Love them all. But I also tune into to BBC 4 &a BBC 4 Extra to catch up w some of the old stuff I don't have. They make it available for approximately a month. what more could one ask? PS. Perhaps you could down/upload some of them? I can't. Am in "the wrong country".

mckavitt I like the BBC stuff, and I've listened to a lot of it. In the far future I'll add some BBC, but for the next 18 mos. I've got several other old USA radio series planned for my channel. Because I spend one two three hours on every upload I only get two to four uploaded a day (I strive for quality over quantity) I have 614 programs uploaded so far. By the way, does NPR still do dramas or replay old ones? I have to admit I haven't actually had my RADIO on for a year! Every night I screen episodes for my channel and listen all night long.

@Rick 1776-1970 The reason GM chose to save Buick over Pontiac was because Buick is a big name in China. (it's true) They built a new plant there right after dropping Pontiac & Olds. Besides, Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs were just too many duplicates of Chevrolets. During my working career, I followed automotive news closely, as I worked for Ford over 25 years. BTW: I'm pretty sure that the USA wasn't on the wrong side . . . The other side was NAZI rule and other dictators.
@SuspenseESCAPEremastered
@SuspenseESCAPEremastered 5 жыл бұрын
@Rick 1776-1970 I've had to think about a lot of stuff you said. I read a lot and watch as many history documentaries as I can find. I won't address it all, because political discussions always go nowhere. I've never had anything against the German people. But inside Germany during the 1930's you wouldn't have been allowed to say all the things you just said. I too, think about the past, and these shows definitely are a form of escapism. When I was a little kid, I grew up in the country with lots of farms nearby. We still had the milkman deliver, a bakery truck also delivered. Full service gas stations were the norm, plus gasoline was .17¢ a gallon. Also, there was a one room school house just an eighth of a mile walk from my home! It was built in 1865, it closed the year I started 1st grade (1965) America of the late 50's and early 60's was truly the end of the age of innocence. But I got to live it for about 10 years. I became a Ford guy when I was a youngster cause my dad was a Ford dealer from 1948 thru 1960. Even though I am biased when it comes to Ford products, I would compare objectively. The quality of Ford vehicles always (and still does) exceed GM products. Thanks for expressing your views, I hope you continue to enjoy my uploads, and continue to post comments - Charlie

I hate situations like this so much, the only thing that could be done to prevent all the bs would involve trying to convince the cops to watch you and hopefully them for an indefinite period of time but of course if you do, the second they stop, BAM, you're screwed.
