The last time South Carolina's baseball program was looking for a new head coach, timing was something that wasn't on their side in their now well-documented pursuit of Florida Gators coach Kevin O'Sullivan. However, considering the candidates athletic director Ray Tanner could be pursuing this time around, he has a potential and rare chance to get out in front of things from the outset. What potential advantages could the Gamecocks have regarding the coaches that have been linked as candidates to their open spot? Andrew breaks down those potential advantages, the trend amongst SEC head coaches who have appeared in one of the past four College World Series that's changed his tune on his candidate board, and why the Texas Longhorns could play a role in taking certain candidates off the table for the Gamecocks!

We need a fresh start, Lee is not the answer, he would be a feel good hire. Powell, no experience at power 5 level especially SEC. I think either one would be a mistake.

We need to get a proven HC that has won in the Power 4 and ideally SEC experience as well. No hires hoping for a guy to surprise us.

I Agree!!! Plus… Someone that has been to the CWS and Preferably Won the Championship!!! I’m scared our… “Board of Trustees” will not Want to Pay for a Proven Winner!!! Super Surprised Me That SCAR Is The 2nd Lowest Paying School (In The SEC) for our “Baseball” Head Coach!!! The Board Needs To Come Off Their Hip Pockets And AD Tanner Needs to Do His Job And Get The Best Money Can Buy!!! Who that is idk But that’s Tanner’s Job Plus His Specialty!!! If he messes this Hire up then his Job should be looked At!!! SCAR does Not need to Regress to Mediocrity in BASEBALL!!! Just my thoughts 🤷‍♂️👍 Course I’d be Firing the House if i Knew we had 💰to Spend and Not Paying for the Best Money Can Buy is the Reason We’re Not Winning in Every Sport 🤷‍♂️🤣👍 Spurs Up☝️ Go Gamecocks!!! ⚾️🏆🏆✅

Hire Landon Powell, retain Monte Lee.

In the SEC if you have a winning conference record , you are probably in the top 10. Why not hire Landon Powell and keep Monte Lee. Geographically they know the landscape, players etc. You're not going to find a better human being than Powell. He is a coaches son and a great Christian man. His dad and Tanner were friends and Powell was a batboy for NCSU when Tanner was there. He went to three college world series at SC finishing second , third , and third. He had a good career in professional baseball cut short by injuries and liver problems. He called and caught the 19th perfect game in major league baseball history. Took North Greenville College from worst to first in the conference year one. At 42 years old he is simply the perfect fit for this school. Hire him and give him any resource he requests to succeed. Powell would probably sit down with Kingston in private and ask him what he thinks some of the problems were. Retain Monte Lee. SEC coaching experience is not necessary , the right person is. Powell has been to Omaha 3 times as a player. Won a national championship at North Greenville in a short period of time. All this guy does is win. Most importantly, he loves this school like no one else will. He is also great with transfers as you have to be in baseball. Guys will gravitate to him and will want to play for him. Don't overthink this. Hire this man.

Best comment I’ve seen here!!! SCAR has a Rich History in College Baseball!!! Richardson raised us from mediocrity Raines kept us there + some Coach Tanner Put Us on a Pedestal!!! 🤣⚾️🏆🏆✅

I thought about that but I knew they wouldn't do it. I also know they won't hire Landon Powell. At this point I'm hoping for Josh Elander. He is about 34 years old and will get it done.

AD Tanner needs to take the Time to Do His Job and Research if he needs to And Get Us… The Right Guy!!! A Proven Winner in the Sport!!! We don’t need to Regress to Mediocrity in Baseball!!! Elander might be a Great Head Coach idk From what I’ve read he has his hands in about Everything in UT’s Program but he’s not a Proven Head Coach… Course Head Coaching Experience sometimes doesn’t mean Anything 🤷‍♂️ With our History in Baseball we should be able to Get this Hire Right and as far as the Right Guy idk who that is but… That’s Tanner’s Job and Baseball is his Specialty so he Needs to Get This Hire Right!!! Who wants a 62 year old retread from Texas? Talk about empty seats at Founders Park. Don't want Louisville's losing coach either. I want Omaha and someone who knows how to get there.
