During the interrogation, Maureen (Marin Ireland) cautions Sweety (Vondie Curtis Hall) about a double homicide investigation; under pressure, Sandy (Adelaide Clemens) reveals details, and Clement (Boyd Holbrook), unimpressed by a camera, starts singing.

Stream Season 1 Of Justified: City Primeval Now: bit.ly/StreamJustifiedSPENow
Having left the hollers of Kentucky 15 years ago, Raylan Givens now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind. A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who's already slipped through the fingers of Detroit's finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell's attorney, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder, has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well. These three characters set out on a collision course in classic Elmore Leonard fashion, to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive.

Man the potential really was there. This could have been SO good. You had the very unlikely love story that somehow actually made sense between Raylan and Carolyn (polar opposites attract), the unhinged sociopath that was much deeper and frustrated as a person in Clement, Sandy as a capable lady "player" that is clearly way the hell over her head when it comes to this situation and Sweety (stole the show) tying it together between all 4 as a very wise man who screwed up along the way and is trying to fix things. Then the noir Detroit backdrop. Instead, it's just "Ok" IMO (still like it though). Maybe they'll try again since Boyd broke out of prison.

white men are NOT attracted to black, thick, and unattractive masculine women. a black woman with her her attitude woulda been ventilated long before she met raylan for one.

Great points. If you read the novel, the material is so good. It's ripe for adaptation. But they really threw out some of the most essential pieces of what made the book so good. Updating it to 2023 is the first mistake. Detroit in the 1970s is such an important part of the story and it's also why something like a literal judge's book is a big deal. There's no way a bunch of paper is going to cause this much frenzy in 2023. You keep that sh-t digital! It would be on an encrypted flash drive or something. It's hilarious that half of the Detroit PD is scurrying around trying to find the judge's book. And then Carolyn Wilder and Raymond Cruz (who Raylan replace in the series) have a scorching hot relationship, the polar opposite of what we see in the series. Carolyn is this very morally ambiguous, intensely sexy lawyer (her last name being Wilder is very very intentional). They miss all of that with the Carolyn in the series who is frumpy and dressed like a grandma and spends all her time with Raylan complaining TO him about her life. I don't think Raylan says a word to her in return, it's so bizarre. In fact, Raylan barely speaks in City Primeval.

The “unlikely” love story was not only unlikely but completely stupid. Let’s trace back to what Raylan’s type was and newsflash it wasn’t this. I do not care about the black and white part but the fat and ugly part I do. But I agree with almost everything else you said, I wanted to liked this miniseries but it fell flat for me. Maybe it’s just that I couldn’t get past the “romance” nonsense, idk.

Mansell was a good villain, i think this show just needed a bit more budget behind it. It was half assed in a few ways which was a detriment, but the characters were pretty good.

I liked Boyd Holbrook's performance but the way they wrote this character made zero sense. He's suppose to be the scariest bad guy Raylan has ever chased but he's a one man army who has almost the entire Detroit PD after him and no one can stop him? Raylan is constantly confused and amazed and puzzled at how Clement keeps getting away. It's unbelievable.

Primeval had half the charm of the original series. And almost no camaraderie. Far too dark. I quit after the first episode. But watched the original twice.

@@civilization57 i'm rewatching the original series now and honestly the first season reminded me a lot of Primeval. I think people forget the lack of chemistry and some of the hamfistedness of the first season of Justified. Thankfully every season after the first season holds up well.

I think this show would have done much better. Had they done something with the Detroit mob. You know, since they spent what 2 seasons setting them up as a major power.

Someone is getting monetized on the basis of people watching these videos to the end hoping there is something worth watching. I am almost ready to quit. City Primeval is either really bad or there are many bad editors putting out video clips about it.
