Story Summary: Somewhere in a dark forest, exists a circus owned by Sir Rigatoni and Admiral Razorbeard where four imprisoned performers are forced to live life as circus freaks, they get mistreated, hit by whips and wish they could be free from their unfair lives. One night, Rigatoni picks up Rayman, the new circus recruit and is forced to stay in the circus because of the amazing tricks he can do with his floating limbless hands. Rayman finds the other performers in their prisons even though they haven't done anything wrong, Rayman won't take this and helps them escape, Rigatoni hires a detective named Inspector Grub to capture them back. Rayman and the gang find someone fixing a faulty car, Cookie offers to fix it, he succeeds and Rayman along with his friends drive into the city of Aerotropolis.

Rayman: The Animated Series is a 3-D cartoon show created by Ubisoft in 1999 which is based on the video game series following the great success of Rayman 2: The Great Escape. There was originally going to be 26 episodes planned but due to the show's early cancellation despite being funded by the government of Quebec, Canada, only 4 were completed, they were entitled: LacMac Napping, No Parking, High Anxiety and Big Date. The fifth episode: My Fair LacMac was almost done in production, it was earning fan speculation but was stopped at the last minute. The show only broadcasted in France, Germany and the Netherlands, this show was even released on VHS in the United States and on DVD in France.

@@keychi7742 Me too. I would have loved to see an episode entitled "Enter Globox" that adds Globox to the mix. Though I feel like his role would be a little to similar to Lacmac's here...assuming Lacmac even has a role. Maybe Globox would become Rayman's primary sidekick...but the question remains, how would they introduce him and build up to solidifying his status as a main character?

@@liamfunnyman6965 He won't. I see him mostly as a recurrent character in this series. Like, i get it, he's supposed to be Rayman's best friend, but we have to maintain focus on the 4 main side-characters too (LacMac, Cookie, Betina and Flips). Maybe Rayman meets Globox in "Enter Globox (as a 2 part episode)", and he finds him annoying at first or just tolerates him. Then he helps Rayman and his friends somehow, gets captured (end of part 1, then starting part 2), they rescue him, get Globox back home, and they become friends, and also making possible future appareances in more episodes, like one where some kind of Red Globox tries to blame him for doing some crime he didn't or something like that.

You know this animated series could have been the perfect way to promote Rayman 2 with this being a prequel to the game, maybe at some point in the circus went to another place or planet were all the crearures such as Globox and the teensies have been captured while Razorbeard have gotten sick of always being the right hand all the time, so that way it could connect the story instead of just introducing all of them randomly

Even beyond that I feel it's a missed opportunity to really flesh out the world. There could have been so much lore and new characters we could have seen. We could have gotten more info about how the people of the Rayman world live their lives by depicting cities and villages instead of just seeing wildlands, temples and fortresses like in the games

One can only wonder why they decided to make the animated series nothing like the games. I can only think of 2 possible reasons. Either this was a prequel to the events of Rayman 2 (since Razorbeard is merely a servant), or they thought the games wouldn't make for a good animated series, so they just made a completely unrelated spin-off.

Since Rayman 2 was barely related to Rayman 1 in terms of the setting, I assume that they wanted to make the cartoon separate from both 1 & 2.

It's pretty common for TV animators to have have any idea on how to adapt games to TV shows. Especially around the early 2000's, when this was made. I have the VHS at my parents house. I can't remember how I got it.

hi i know this is old but iirc this show was actually made before rayman 2 lmao. i can't explain why it's nothing like rayman 1 but presumably they already knew they were moving away from that!

@@perecotit0 I have learned in the meantime that Rayman 2's plot was also supposed to be about Pirates kidnapping Rayman and his friends for an intergalactic circus. So yeah, this show's premise isn't that confusing anymore.

I heard that Globox WAS gonna in the tv series but they didn't add him to the cast cause they thought a frog would be offensive for the french audience or something. So they made LacMac. This could not be true but I don't live in France so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You gotta wonder why there's an ENTIRELY new cast here, lol. Especially when this new cast bears SUCH a resemblance to the og Rayman characters. Lacmac is like Globox, he talks similarly and is blue like him "Betina" sounds an awful lot like "Betilla", has red hair like Betilla, and she has proportions similar to that of Ly Cookie and Flips? Not sure about them... but I can see Murfy taking the place of Flips.

Always confused me what all those beak people that inhabit this city were, like, the show makes it out that this set of main characters are outcasts compared to the lot of the population, but like, in Rayman games, there’s a TON of different species all mostly living in harmony. They’re cool but I would’ve loved more exposition on them and their city, perhaps there would had been had this show fully was produced and not ended right as it started.

They do, and they vaguely remind me of the Zombie Chickens from Rayman 2 as well, again, who knows cause this show never got to see it’s full run, whatever it’s plot intentions were, considering it came out very close to Rayman 2 itself, and even has Razorbeard (I guess-) I feel like they might’ve planned some sort of connection.

So i watched it completely and tbh, its surprisingly not that bad of a series. I can tell the series was gonna be like one of those shows where every episode is gonna tell a different story featuring different situations for the characters, but there's still one major plot that it has. It does have its priblems though like consistency. The first three episodes they didn't know they were living over the detective, but in the 4th episode they already found out that he was under them and already had a way to get by him. There wasn't even a moment to show how they found out, it just happens, not even in the third episode do they show this happening, and it could have been the perfect opportunity to do that. Another problem is that the main villains don't make appearances through the rest of the 4 episode series, but I think the series only having 4 episodes contribute to that problem so I guesd that problem can be left out. Either way, it was a decent series in my opinion

How? He gets cocky with his enemies although he joked a bit with Cookie along with Betina, but he's still mostly nice to his friends. Although he's more mature in later games. But I loved him since the first game and I still love him to this day. The one game I felt he was really ooc in is the first Raving Rabbids game. And a bit in the 3rd game but Globox was really out of it in the 3rd game. And Origins.
