I can't get over Zakharova's bourrées. They are pure perfection and look so graceful, fluid, and effortless.

In this role, Sylvie was in a rank of her own. The way she moves her torso is unique in this piece. She's divine!

Svetlana Zakharova is my choice. Wish I could see a complete performance of Raymonda by Svetlana.

I mean khoreva was only 19 and this was her debut as Raymonda, it doesn't really make sense to compare her to these icons who have 10 to 20 more years of experience, but I still love seeing the interpretation of each ballerina

Zakharova is ethereal. I like that her version is artistic and not athletic. She always exude beauty and grace.

Raymonda is about speed and elegance. Without musicality and the body to execute the movements can make or break the interpretation of this dance. Sylvie reigns supreme in this variation. She has the musicality and body to dance fittingly for this variation. WOW! Just supreme dancing.

Zakharova uses music really well.

Svetlana is the best match to the character! Do love her dancing

Svetlana has amazing amount of grace. Others show way too much work in the flutter. She makes it look effortless. Actually, others make most of it look like work and jerky rather than flowing and graceful.

Queen Sylvie reigns supreme. Feet sharp as knives, weightless jumps, incomparable lines.

.. but the extraordinary skill of Zakharova and Guillem…. and the extraordinary beauty of Zakharova and Guillem…. without words….

Osipova in name stands out, but Guillem was just fantastic and she gets my "vote"!

Everyone rehearsing this variation should watch Sylvie's performance. Not to imitate her movements, but to get inspired by the radical freedom in them. She is Raymonda in spite of still being Sylvie, even better, she's the best Raymonda, the most powerful one, because she dances Raymonda with all the potential living in Queen Sylvie. The last 20th century's dancer. The ulimate ballerina's personality.

Zakharova really stands out for me out of these splendid performances. She is so incredibly powerful through and through that when I was watching her I thought that she might shoot lightning out of her fingers. I loved it, and appreciate it every time when I see dancers channel strength to their arms instead of just leaving them for line extension tools. This small little detail makes Zakharova's work crisp, strong, and alive from tip to toe. She owns the character and her power, and it makes all the difference. Khoreva's beautiful as always, but at the same time I almost always get the feeling that she has worked so hard living up to other people's standards and being perfect in her art that she hasn't had the time to work on her own uniqueness which is, of course, absolutely there only to be discovered and tapped into. When it comes to ballet students, finding, working on and trusting the depth of your own personality can often be as hard as (if not harder than) refining one's technique, especially when people start so very young. This is one of Khoreva's best performances I've seen in this regard. Wishing her all the best, she is fantastic all the same.

Everyone is great. However, for the correct perception of the dance of these GREAT ballerinas, it's a good idea to keep their age in mind: Khoreva - 19 Zakharova - 31 Osipova - 33 Guillem - 25 Nunez - 38 Maybe I was wrong in months, but not in years, I took the year of birth as a basis.

Osipova is usually my favourite, but Guillem was just made for this variation - the grace & extension in her upper body all while maintaining that footwork is something to behold. Khoreva doesn’t hold a candle to them, unfortunately.

Guillem and Osopova are standouts for me.

After viewing this several times, Sylvie Guillem's performance really hits home for me. Even though Zakharova's arms bend so serpentinely it's hard to believe, Sylvie's arm work seems more integrated with the motions of her body. She also seems more in time with the music than the others. Everyone's good, but Sylvie looks perfect.

I'm torn between Svetlana and Sylvie. Both were superb. I know it's supposed to be Sylvie but Svetlana is so fluid in this piece.

I liked them all, but Zakarova was a little bit better in my opinion. Though I absolutely love Osipova and Nunez.

I love comparisons because I appreciate the styles of all the ballerinas but for this one, Sylvie is my favorite by a mile. Next is Marianela. As usual, Zacharova strikes me as the perfect technician who always plays the same character, herself.

Sylvie has always been my favorite in this variation! From head to toe she is perfection !! The charisma pours out of her when she dances. So beautiful!

На мой взгляд, здесь королева - Нуньес. Хорева и Захарова танцевали вариацию - воплощение чистоты и элегантности классического балета. Захарова ирреальна , как видение прекрасной дамы из рыцарских романов.

All great ballerinas with beautiful variations on the theme but Guillem gets me every time. Love this version, it's ebb and flow and just pure Guillem in action.

This is the role and the scene that introduced me to Sylvie Guillem, now easily my favorite dancer. I could not take my eyes off of her, she was truly mesmerizing, something I would learn that was not at all unique to this role. She is exquisite and was at the pinnacle of dance. She is still an inspiration.

Well after seeing all of these one after the other I must say that my favorite is....EVERY ONE OF THEM!! I'm not a critic or a company director - just a very serious ballet fan, so I have the privilege of loving all of these wonderful ballerinas and not having to choose just one of them. I am struck by how different they all are in their interpretations of this role and how beautiful they all are in it. Just wonderful! Thanks for posting this!

Svetlana does it the best. Its her type of role. Each accent of the dance hit perfectly. Her bourrées are divine. Maria is great, but this part is still a bit too hard for her. She can't seem to hold those poses that make this dance special because she can't keep still when its time to hold the pose. Because of it the dance is missing those accents. Osipova is usually phenomenal, but this wasn't her type of role. Her bourrées are stiff and heavy. Guillem is ok and so is Nunez.

Osipova is the Hungarian Princess with attitude; I love her portrayal. I want to dance & celebrate with her! Zakarova just flows & Nunez & Gillium are gorgeous. Khoreva is lovely & developing character.

Really interesting! Thanks for this. All such different interpretations too. I think Maria Khoreva showed plenty of drama: it did not always show on her face, but in the way she used her body... fascinating to watch. Sylvia as always was stunning, a real individual. If I had to choose a favourite, it would be Zakharova though: I know the ballet is set in Hungary, but I found Zakharova’s Interpretation fascinatingly reminiscent of Georgian/ Cossack dances, the way the ladies seem to be floating - which she achieved with those incredibly neat bourrees- and the elegant use of arms (they are supposed to be swans): then the change with the music to a more Hungarian style. That, to me, was the most compelling viewing.

I had no idea how tiny Osipova was. Mighty but tiny! Beautiful….all of them….beautiful…..

The last one with Nunez was kind of a surprise (; Anyway, Raymonda is such an underrated ballet...

These ballerinas are treasures, each expressing their unique qualities and interpretation. I looked up Gelsey Kirkland’s version after watching this clip and, even though the video itself is not so clear, she is a standout, too. We’re so lucky to be able to watch these sublime artists.
