Correct me if I'm wrong but since single player is just a local server with only one player (you), I'd imagine the plug-in should work regardless of multiplayer or singleplayer

if you make a perimiter, I think it would be interesting to do it with just using flowing lava to light it up(though sadly that does not stop slimes spawning)
