Oh, I could probably say a lot as well =D. For instance: * Getting your levels and pans should be the first thing before you do any additional processing. In fact, your rough mix should be just that. * The processing should be about how the part works for the whole, not for the part in itself. In other words, stop trying to get that "drum tone" or "guitar tone" in isolation. * Mix with intention. In other words, ask yourself "What is the song about? Is it fiery? Is it chill? Is it dynamic?" Make your moves reflect that end goal. * Mixing is an extension of arrangement and, to some extent, composition. If your composition and arrangements are worked out, it should be easy to mix (certainly not difficult). * Have your "workhorse plugins" or plugins you know like the back of your hand and can use at any time. Or if you like to have options, know how the fundamentals work (i.e. how EQ works, how compression works, etc.).

I’m super excited to hear you what you said about the last 20% I’ve been struggling with the idea of finding things like one compressor setting that works for the whole song. I feel liberated hearing that it’s ok to need different things for different sections! Thank you!

Another great tutorial, Bobby! Scott at The House of Kush channel had a couple great videos about this theme, transitions and focus of key elements, which initially opened my eyes to this concept. But what I love here is all the great examples you went through. This was super helpful, thanks again!

Bobby another thing I learned recently relating to DSP conservation is freezing tracks pre-fader verses source only in Logic Pro. Not sure how that works in your daw but I didn’t know how much more you save freezing pre-fader. I used to run into processing issues a lot. Not if I freeze tracks pre-fader I get back soooo much overall processing power. It’s so simple and it was a game changer for me. That subject could be something to share as a quick video for your followers.

I’ve been automating my mixes, but had not considered automating the “master” bus. Excellent advice. I also typically volume ride into compressors, clippers and limiters. My mixing partner typically does the opposite, which leads us to some interesting arguments 😂

I’d love to learn some of your strategies for glueing sounds together in your sub buses. Especially the kick sub bus for kick in and out and how that relates back to the bass and guitar buses.

There is a 8 one, which is about lowend, but it is probably a bit less tricky to have on the style you work on, than on EDM or rap, where there are many, many professional tricks needed to get the lowend right

Sorry, one more question. If you’re mixing with midi drums not acoustic drums, do you have different strategies for how you create sub buses and how you process those buses?

As mixers though we can't always be selective about what we work on. So a tutorial on these themes from almost any genre would be helpful. I'd recommend checking out the rest of the video. He covers some great concepts and uses great examples.

I didn’t intend to be disrespectful or ungrateful. I’ve learned a lot from this channel. But as Keith Richards noted (regarding rap music) “I don’t like being yelled at.” I feel that way about rap as well as whatever genre was used in this vid. I’m 71, so maybe a bit too old to put personal tastes aside. But I’ll be back for the next video.

You sort of missed the point of the video if you went into it expecting to be entertained. The point is managing a complex, dense mix. It’s not my style of music either but that’s completely irrelevant.
