The fingerprint smudging is an anodized aluminum thing. Other manufacturers either paint their aluminum chassis, use plastic, or cover it in an anti-oil coating... all of which will scratch. You don't get scratch resistance without smudging when you touch it unfortunately. Razer is making the right call here. And thank you for mentioning the soldered RAM! I agree, 16 GB isn't enough for 2022 and beyond. Razer needs to start offering 32 GB options.

Great video! This is what KZfaq needs. As far as the RAM situation I think if you need more than 16GB of RAM you are most likely using an external monitor or need a bigger built in display. At least with DaVinci Resolve it only uses like 8-12GB of RAM on a whole documentary shot on RED and a bunch of GoPros on a 64GB iMac Pro. Blender will suck up what ever it takes and I need a 27 inch monitor at minimum for that and an running it on a Ryzen PC with 128GB of RAM. I have a 2017 Razer Blade Stealth which I love other than it's bad back lighting on the keyboard and bad trackpad, it is pretty much only my DIT and string out machine in Resolve.

Honestly that 16gb ram will be the problem! I wish they could of squeezed 32gb into the mid range + levels.

I just got this laptop. Pretty good so far. Switched from m1 mac because of what i am doing. arm structure got in the way of a bunch of things for me. I am going to miss the amazing battery life for sure.

In case you were wondering, this laptop can use the 100w Gan charger and still get 90W TGP. Just restart the computer with it plugged in to the Gan only. It's bananas I use razer 130w Gan for gaming it rocks. After it restarts, the synapse software locks it to balanced mode. Way better for travel.

Good to know! Curious if your opinion is the same 3 months later? I have had a very different experience with the 15 Pro - definitely do NOT recommend - it is incapable of even mid-tier games and overheats to the point of burning my fingers when I try and press certain keys (E, R, D, F for example). Some friends also have Razer Blades and theirs are unable to close properly as the case has warped so badly from overheating. If you're considering a 15 Pro, my advice would be to avoid.

For my personal use, the Asus ROG Flow X13. The CPU is almost as powerful, and it comes in a 32GB RAM variant as well.

the only thing I dislike about the base model is the 1080P screen. like a $400 markup for a better screen? like sure you get an RTX 3070 with the upgrade but I still hate that they chose this path. additional note: both of those USB C is able to be used for charging and for Video out via display port. this is very important to state as while it's not Thunderbolt, it's still nice to have some form of extra ability out of the connector

I really want a comparison with the Asus rog Zephyrus g15. I need a laptop for work and minimal gaming, something that can maybe run warzone in medium-low settings with decent fps. Thermals are my major concern as I want a laptop to last me at least a good 3-4 years ( Obv with me taking good care of it). They don't seem too bad on this, however, I feel like I'm getting way more from the g15 (including better thermals)... but I've heard it has a lot of QC issues...**Sighs** ...

How are these in terms of battery life? Ive been reading A LOT about razer blades being plagued by batteries bloating a year into owning them :/ I dont mind spending the money if aslong as I take great care of my hardware it will last me, however if I have to worry about batteries bloating over time due to cheap product, that makes me anxious!

Hmm.. most other laptops with an AMD 5900HX get over 12,000 on Cinbench R23. This one only got 9458. Maybe you didn't have it plugged in?

My experience (at 1 week): -- Battery life is so-so. Realistically about 3:30 mins on max battery, 2:30 mins on optimum. Mostly due to the fans coming on 1/3 of the time even on max battery settings. Fans go off at 39 deg C and come on at 51 deg C (CPU temp). Even with CPU throttled to 1.06GHz temps will slowly creep up to from 40 deg to 50 deg C over about 5 mins, the fans will then kick on at a low setting. Indicated Batt life is 4:30 mins with the fans OFF, 2:40 mins, averaging about 3:30 mins. The Razer 14 draws about 17W (total) in max battery saving settings, which is OK but not phenomenal. Maybe Liquid Metal will keep the fans off or minimize fan time; if true this will increasing batt life w/ it's 62 Wh battery.. -- Performance is great. Will drive 4K @ 77 fps with CPU @ 68~70 deg C, GPu @70~72C, keyboard is cool to touch given air ingress from both the keyboard gaps and bottom of chassis. -- Stability has been perfect. Fans are off half the time on idle or during web browsing. Fans on low is inaudible. Fan at max is very refined and not objectionable -- both in volume and in pitch. -- Very compact and better performing (in benchmarks) than the Razer 15 Adv w/ 11800H + RTX3070 + QHD 165MHz scn. At $500 less for equivalent specs you save enough money to upgrade the SSD from 1TB to 4TB, or simply pocket the money. AMD CPU superiority is a fact for 2021. The Intel variant uses more power and is slower, but has better battery like due to it's 99Wh battery. -- I would have paid ~$500 extra for 64GB DDR4-3200 DRAM but it is not offered. And, it is not upgradeable in this regard. Sad.

So would you buy the 11th gen 15 inch Intel variant over this then? Looks like the Advanced models will be shipping with 32GB RAM. Not sure if that's soldered on or not but way more future-proof. It's also Intel so....Thunderbolt!

Damn you made a good point 16GB isn't enough RAM for a main system personally... I do have a desktop along side it so maybe it's not that much of a problem, it's mostly not enough for VMs. Maybe just using Windows and WSL would be enough and use my desktop as a server for VMs and docker and stuff. But otoh 2400 euros for the 3070 is a lot of money for a system where I have to work with workarounds and not exactly what I want. Really at that price they're skimping, which every manufacturer seems to make a crime of but some at least allow you to upgrade or at least buy a 32GB model. If they'd made the 3080 model 32GB id just get that.

tbh the 16 gb of RAM is totally fine for gaming. other productivity stuff sure you'd prob want more, but that 3060 is going to be obsolete and will be the bottle neck when it comes to gaming way before you need 32 gb of ddr4 from my experience. enjoyed your take overall tho!

Yeah the 16gm max ram is a deal breaker. ASUS rog flow x13 has a much sweeter spec with Ryzen 9 5980HS, RTX 3050ti and 32gb ram. Not to mention the optional external RTX 3080 dock.

Would be the perfect for my hybrid needs of productivity (ITOps) and gaming and home labbing in my off time but the lack of 32gb ram kills that Many of the ASUS ROG options would be more than suitable but they decided during a global pandemic no one needs a webcam in their mobility device 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Thunderbolt is a non event. There are more, cheaper and better USB-C accessories and devices. This is somewhat due to Intel thinking charging massive licence fees would be a smart thing to do 😂
