My 144001 have a Dumbo RC with gyro and 500 meter range. My 144001 have a 3650 platinum motor enjoying 3S and a 120 amp hobbywing quicrun 10BL120 ESC. My 144001 have a super fast JX 3kg servo. My 144001 is an absolute beast on dirt track. My 144001 can go +110 Km/h on asphalt with foam tires. (No GPS but a dust cloud is raised by the car, very impressive) My 144001 cost less than 160 € including delivery. This is reason I already bought 8 units and even some other brushless kits to compare :-)

Amazingly well done comparison. Thumbs up! And yeah, I do not know much about the Associated (other than what you told me) but I agree on the 144001. Just did a lot of tests. Super fun in the backyard. Bend the shock tower. Popped a few turn-buckles, dogbone. And it held up fine in jumps, durability wise. Took a lot of jumps to break it. And ye, super cheap for what you get. But yes, the cheap aluminium chassis and towers, and the overall 'entry-level'/hobbyist design of the chassis (no center diff etc.) doesn¨t make it a racer.

I'm new to speed runs, but I've seen almost 107 mph with the 144001, and 101.00 with a single 4s, almost a 100mph on 2 3s mounted outside the body, and I'm not sure the grade of aluminum but you can get a full suspension kit including gears, dog bones, everything except metal gear cases, and a motor mount for about 70 bucks. Are you talking speed competition, or track competition ready?

Yeah, but depending on where you drive the buggy and wltoys poor quality control, you may need two buggies and spare parts to keep it running. Ended up selling my 144001 for parts and picking up a reflex 14b used.

WL Toysssssss. Sick of them expensive RC cars. Had a few and the real differences are minor (only count in a competition).

on the wltoys shock tower, the redcat epx line had the same issue with the thing alloy towers...the easy/cheap solution is to buy a spare tower, and bolt 2 together, making it twice as thick. You need some longer hardware, and I drilled 2 holes to put a small bolt/nut to lock the 2 towers together. I did that on my redcats and it made them just as good as the aftermarket shock towers but for less money.

The control arms hubs and axkes are all compatible with the EMB 1....i put about 80 dollars in upgrades on my WL toy 144001 and it's a solid platform but im gonna eventually buy the EMB 1 or the TACON..

So glad you did this review. Been waiting on it. I have a 144001 but I've been waiting on a replacement part from China that may never even arrive at this point. Was looking into the Reflex 14b, but since they don't race 1/14 scale at my local track, not sure it makes much sense to spend the $$ just to run on my tiny backyard track. And with the current pandemic, I won't be going to the indoor track anytime soon anyway. As much as parts support sucks, I'm kind of leaning toward buying another 144001, and then having two to race in the backyard when the replacement part comes.

Does direct drive like the 144001 give you better traction than a center diff? It seems like it would since the power is forced front and back evenly where a center diff. would direct the power to whichever wheels are slipping the most. Am I wrong?

I would think under hard acceleration in a straight line the the direct drive would give better traction. But during turning I'd imagine a center diff would be much better as the front and rear wheels are going to want to be turning at different speeds causing the car to "push".

Parts for the wl is bit of an issue,but unless racing you can't go wrong with the wl144001. Beginners will love it and then they will want more. Price is very help full when starting the rc hobbie.

Great comparison and worth doing. They are both 1/14th scale buggies and regardless of what some people think the use for each might be...people look at both and wonder why get the Team Associated when the WLTOYs is so much cheaper and rips out of the box. I kept my TA 14B and got rid of the WLTOYS. Granted, I was pretty impressed with the 144001 out of the box as a basher, but after driving them both for a while its not hard to notice the finer details of the Reflex 14B

WLToys vehicles are for upgrading and smashing up. They are fun to own. The Reflex is a dream out of the box, and are great fun to drive. I am afraid to crash it though because I am afraid I'd never get it back to how it drives out of the box.

I would have gone for the reflex, but there's just no upgrades for the reflex. Parts support for wltoys have been insanely available lately . Since wltoys have been popular lately parts demand are always there.

I like the idea of comparing a cheap decent quality rc with a race designed one from one of the best rc's company. I will love to have them both. I can imagine someone who want to try enter the hobby. Few bash with care in the street... a try on race track... seems like the wltoy is not wrong for it and if you like the hobby, stick with the cheap for a bit and buy the good quality when you are confident enough to decide what you want. Lots of us want the best for the need. So at the end when you know you like the hobby. You end up buying the one you think is the best... And time to make your choice a cheap try is welcom for beginners.

This! Just got in to the hobby and bought 2 144001, one for me and one for the kid. The price diff is such that I can just buy the upgrades my kid wants for christmas and holidays and whatnot. Let him break stuff and learn from the experience.

Craftsman Micro Drill Out 4 pc set...recommend to everyone with a stripped screw. Screw is out in 30 seconds. Have been using for many years. Highly recommend instead of the dremel and flat head screw driver setup.👍🏼

I just so happen to have both of these buggies. The 144001 has a really strong suspension. My 14B seems to have a lower stance and slower rebound.

Make no mistake the 14001 is non stop parts replacement . diffs break all the time . shocks bend and break. gearing is way to fast for a young driver . iI bought one for my grand son and spent 3 times the cost replacing broken parts. Should have just gone with a Traxxas Bandit in the first place. Cheers from New Zealand

The motor in the team associated is only rated for 2s. But the car overall can handle up to 4

Hello can you please better explain the differential thing you say about 144001 around minute 3? Do you mean that the center axis has no internal gearing/own differential and so it equally transmits engine power to both front and rear differentials? And if so can you point us to a small (1:14 or smaller) RC that has this? Sorry if it's a dumb question I'm not English mother language and it's hard for me to understand everything in videos when there is no subs.

you are correct. the 144001 does not have a differential in the center, it is always equal power front and rear. The Reflex 14B has a center differential.

The Reflex is just way more of a car in comparison. The 144 is nice but it's limited and breaks quite easily, I love it but there's not real comparison with the reflex.

WL for me cuz its cheap to start and l have extra hop ups to try with it like old school brushed race motors and a few brushless 540 motor also to play with :) NOT that l dont like associated stuff ,brushless RTR for under $200 is not a bad deal really but when you have done this long we have PARTS to play with and that makes me go HMMMMM l wonder .......

144001 has slightly more adjustability than the reflex 14b. You can't even change the shock positions on the a-arms on the reflex. still want to get the reflex next, 1:14 scale rules.

the team associated is undoubtly better, however the wltoys will get more people into the hobby to eventually later buy associated's or Losi if they eventually come to their senses, what we should be more concerned with is building this class, I feel that with the entry cost this could be the class to run, a lot of people are pulling out because they are spending huge amounts of money to be competitive, the beauty of this class is the size, too much power makes these little beasts incredibly hard to drive so it is much easier and cheaper to be competitive and that is where the advantage for the chassis manufacturers to innovate again just like back i the 80's massive strides can be made again, more 80's and 90's revolutions than a pretty much perfected 10th and 8th scale of today when the biggest change is 2 degrees of geometry change and a spliffy new body

I have up graded me WL 14001 with steel spur 3650/3900kv motor and 3s 120amp ESC ,25kg digital servo for less than £65 .So with buying my car for£69 +£65=134 I don't think you could go faster for less, 67mph according to the app on my phone

@@zNovaGadbwuah well you cant use 540 size motors, I believe the stock motor is a 28mm diameter. You can use a longer can motor but it has to be a 28mm diameter. You could probably use a bigger esc, it just depends what tacon you get. Like the buggy version has very little space under the body so you would be limited.

Aside from Price...Parts availability and upgrades should always be the main reason on choosing a brand to play your RC as long as you want because all of them will break specially if you’re a basher😊 WLToys after upgrades, lots of fun, tons of parts available👍🏼😊👍🏼 just my humble opinion.....

Sounds to me like someone is very prejudiced toward the Associated. he made good points about the WL and then turned right around said the Associated was the better car in that area. Exactly why I give absolutely no credence to on-line reviews. You could get 5 different people to do the comparison of two exact cars and they would all be wildly different. I don't know where he got the WL doesn't have a center diff because mine does. Want to tune it to front and rear differences? Simply use a different weight silicone grease and you're good to go!

Ron Laisle. The WL doesn’t have a center diff. We have 3 in our family and none of them have a center diff. I don’t think you have any clue what a differential actually looks like and is.

I did not say it’s an LC, it’s a clone of an LC and I talk about using LC parts to modify it and what the differences are.

Very frustrated with my 144001, steering is extremely mushy, simply due to that very flexible servo horn (the servo saver is just for show), was about to replace the horn but the servo have a 26t spline! and I was unable to find a suitable and more rigid horn, replacing the electronics is not what I want now

Yes, when I started looking into upgrading the buggy, it quickly spiraled out of control and didn't make sense from a cost perspective to spend money on the buggy. So I bought the Reflex.

Theres no comparaison between the two one is to be run stock and just bash it and the reflex is a race tunned buggy people who get the wltoys is just to have fun onroad it will do miserably bad in a track because it was never intended for it

I disagree, there is definitely a comparison to be had. For someone like me who does not follow 4wd buggies at all, the wltoys looked significantly better for the price and I wouldn't be able to easily tell on paper what would make the associated worth 3x the price other than the brand name. Especially when you consider the insane aftermarket parts support for wltoys stuff on amazon. Where I'm at there is not a single track that would ever run these as a class, and I imagine that's a fairly common sentiment. Comparing only two race grade buggies for a class that isn't really popular seems almost pointless to me. I'd rather see the difference between a china knockoff and a china race grade than yet another Losi vs associated where it almost always just comes down to preference, and the biggest advantage is just the overall skill/experience to setup and drive of the user

well, the 144001 is a copy of the EMB-1H which is definitely a race buggy. I was hoping the 144001 would work as the same, and it's actually not that bad, but just not worth spending money on upgrading to get there

@@RazorRC No problem! don't get me wrong, for a lot of the main stream spec classes, i do also love to hear about the design and engineering difference between the top models / brands, but it's also refreshing to see how the cheaper clones stack up against higher end models in a direct comparison side by side-- especially lately where you are starting to see some acceptable quality in the cheaper stuff for the really low price. Not to mention it seems like more and more upgrade parts for some of these clones are available on amazon prime where I don't have to wait a month for it to ship from overseas. I prefer the higher end associated and TLR type products, but as a hobbyist, it's also fun to tinker around with cheaper models and see how the various upgrades can improve the performance--- vs just getting something that out of the box is almost as good as it can get. But if in the end it woud cost more or the same to upgrade and still end up with lower quality and/or less performance, It does kind of take away some of that value. So this comparison was right up my alley

@@zkipa I own 2 of the LC Racing minis and I picked up the WL Toys 144001 just to compare the 2 and you just can't. It's like comparing one of those cameras you buy off wish for $30 to a Go pro. I ran it once and I hated it. It just handled like poo. I'm just going to use it for spares and trash the stuff that I don't need.

I thumbs downed this video because wltoys is a great product. I've been playing with all types of there vehicles for years and the quality is exactly what you would expect if not better for what you pay. At first I didnt get the point of this video cause idk how one would compare them, ones and entry level chinese toy the other is from a well established semi race know company. Then at the end you do mention well for racing associated all day. Hope your next video isnt comparing the og minit to the 2.0. Otherwise your video was good keep up the great work.

It just kinda seemed down on the wltoys when I feel like it's an amazing vehical ( for what it is ) and I definitely do not play nice with my toys. Again great work the video overall was good. I'll catch some more vids and maybe give ya a sub. Stay well
