Dont blame the devaluation of the RB position on Shannahan, blame it on the rule changes that leaned so heavily in the direction of making passing easier. It's a damn shame actually, I preferred the era where a running back could be the 1a on a dynasty like Emmitt was. There was more variety in the league. Some teams it was the qb others it was the rb. Looks like we'll never see another Barry S or even LT level performer at the position

What I hate so much is that the NFL refuses to Nerf the passing game.. I play alot of online games and when something is clearly skewing the meta a certain way the devs come in and nerf it so the game becomes balanced and fun again. The NFL is basically just a passing league now. My idea on how to Nerf the passing game. Is stop calling roughing the passer so damn much. And the "corner has has to look for the ball" in order not to get a pass interference. As a corner I could literally tell when the ball was coming by looking at the wideouts face and body language.

This makes so much sense it's so hard to play defense nowadays because in the mind of a defense defender knowing they'll call that on QBs n corners know that have to look for the ball which is good because it's skill on cb n receivers situation but it shouldn't be that ya have to look at it that's actually either or because me too used to watch the receiver but the new generation can get taught that n actually adapt but it takes away gifted talent it makes it robot in a sense ts feel me lol not cool fr now I break it down 😂 but QB rules the way they call it is bs fr literally makes defensive player hesitate n on the receiving end the middle be open we need to allow men play men games while controlling it but it's football them players that complained about the rules wanted sum money or just wanted to say bs because who really was superstar in past complaining about rules because football football favre got hit n broke receivers fingers n the game was more diverse n positioning n positionless wat your expectations for the new kids just score score no defense fr or put up numbers individually ts or what if they all skilled to where nobody really stands out while making RB n defense less impact everybody literally passing n qb are MVPs n defensively they not hitting like that it's good tackling which good but the hesitation of it makes it to easy on offense

Teams highly value young running backs and spend draft capital. They just don’t spend money on long term contracts. RBs going early in the 1st in the last decade. Bijan Robinson (5), Leonard Fournette (4), Ezekiel Elliot (4), Saquon Barkley (2), Todd Gurley (10) When you go back 10+ years that’s when no running backs were taken in the first round. Example, Bishop Sankey was the top RB in 2014 going 54. Just a cycle and this decade has been rich with high draft RBs.

It makes sense on both the league's side which is RBs don't last long, and the RBs side which is I'm going to squeeze every penny I can get out of owner's because of the quick wear and tear they're about to put me through. These contracts just have to meet somewhere in the middle to where it makes sense for both the RBs and the teams they're signing with.

This is a stupid topic. The Raven get to The AFC Championship Game and ran the ball 6 Times. The Lions are up 14 points and stop running the ball. It’s called situational football. When you run the ball you are killing clock. Atlanta Falcons lost the game in the SB because they kept throwing the football. Kansas City RB rushed for 900 yards in 17 games and number 20 in rushing out of 31 teams. Why do people keep using him as an example.?

If you just look at an offense, a RB is the simplest position. Anyone can carry a ball with explosiveness up a gap. We have WR's coming in and excelling at RB as well. Its not for everyone because of the punishment the body goes through so that's why not everyone is doing it all the time. Keyshawn is exactly correct!

So how much longer will talented players continue to play rb. I think in the future it’s possible all the athletic players only are willing to play wr/te or cb/s and the only ones left playing rb are the ones too slow to play anything else. If that happens will the rb market recover? Anyway the reason rb makes no money is the rookie scale contract and franchise tag. 7 years of control is their whole career at least the productive part for rbs.

Lets talk the 3 backs in the headline. I think Barkley should be the first back taken in FA. His versatility fits with so many offensive minded HC's. I'd like to see him in Houston or Arizona. Jacobs should stay in Vegas. AP clearly wants him there as the lead back and I'm not sure other coaches want the same. Plus he can be reliable back for a young QB. Henry is that power back few teams need. The two teams that stick out to me are... Dallas: they need someone who can be a force in the redzone and on 3rd down. Philly: splitting snaps with Swift would open up that offense.

Very few RB’s come out of rookie contracts healthy. Most of these guys are used up once they sign these big contracts. Shelf life is 4-6 years for a RB barring any bad injuries. Zeke and Gurly didn’t help the RB market either. It is also a pass first league and when teams are winning SB’s with almost anyone at the RB position it makes it tough for teams to use a lot of cap on the position. RB’s should have shorter rookie contracts so they are still fresh when they are up for the big payout. Maybe it will change The days of pounding the rock is slowly going away
