The New York Times called Steve Reich “our greatest living composer.” Experienced in the field of Western Classical, Reich managed to transcend regional and cultural boundaries, incorporating influences from around the world as well as from past, present and future.
Acclaimed composer Steve Reich discussed his approach to composition, his inspirations and some of his most lauded works in his lecture at RBMA London 2010.

Born in 1936 and influenced by John Cage, he walked his own way alongside other American minimalists like Philip Glass, Terry Riley and John Adams - although Reich himself prefers the term post-minimalism. Repetition and the use of speech and field recordings mark the cornerstones of his vast body of work. Naming all of his awards, prizes, or lectureships would take up the space of a small-town phone book. Among his most famous, compositional adventurous and critically acclaimed works are Different Trains, Music For 18 Musicians or pieces like Come Out.

Great Interview. It can be difficult to get Reich to go beyond his standard answers and he elaborated quite a bit here!

Do none of these interviewers ever do the standard amount of research before starting these videos? I remember a vid with someone talking about Buchla synths and the interviewer guy barely had a fucking clue who he was talking to. And now this woman can't figure out the difference between a Pulitzer and a Nobel. FFS...
