Locking a CC01 front diff makes a big improvement in its trail performance and this is an easy way to get the job done without glues. Part of the Tamiya Jeep Wrangler YJ build.

Nice job man I like this method. When I started researching this because I just picked up the cc01 for my wife. I didn't like what I was hearing about using glue in the diff's. Caught your video on a cc01 locked diff KZfaq search and I'm glad I did. You got my sub man!

I did a quick tips vid on this too. I also show how to make these diffs lsd if you don't want/need a fully locked diff.

...... And I went with none of the above - because I'm weird like that! Actually, thinking like an automotive technician(which I was), I HAD to think outside of the box. I made the R/C version of Positraction, easily. I didn't modify anything mechanical. What I did, since these are sort of sealed diff assemblies, I FILLED the front diff with 120,000wt BALL DIFF grease! Why? Because I won't lose any steering (and the CC-01 doesn’t have a ton to begin with). Unless you're building a deep mud or pure rock crawler, the front wheels NEED to spin at different speeds. That said, the front diff, filled with that goo, is TIGHT! With the power off, I can turn one wheel while holding the other.... BUT under power, it almost tore the skin off of my hand!! Also, if I give it throttle while holding it up, and put one front wheel on the ground - the wheel on the ground WILL keep spinning, and PULLING. I'm calling it a success, so far. I can only do it for less than a minute - because my 19 year old stick battery won't hold a full charge for longer than that. So, hopefully soon, I can finally get it outside, and really test it! It truly is very tight, without being locked.

Nice job dude. I always use JIS drivers when working on Tamiya kits. It pretty much gets rid of the risk of stripping screw heads.

Nice fix, cheers mate. How badly is the turning radius affected by locking the diffs?

After i added in the extra gear and put everything back together the differential would not fit back into the Chassis. After two tries i got it to go back together and everything looked nice and even, but when i placed the diff into the chassis it fit more snugly than before. Intstead of being able to just drop it down into the chassis I had to physically push it down in place. I reassembled everything and gave it a test run and now I hear a weird noise coming from the car. Any suggestions? I guess im getting ready to take it back out because i dont want to ruin anything.

I just spent the 12 dollars for the "J " parts bag for another factory locker. But that'll work

What is the advantage of blocking differential? Are the two blocked? or just rear lock? Block forward does not subtract direction? Thank you!
@audioamateur8 жыл бұрын
Nice. By doing this do you lose any efficiency in terms of power/battery draw (because of drivetrain loss resulting from the diff being locked)?
@CarmineRC7 жыл бұрын
Stephen R - Yes. and unless you never drive on pavement or hard dirt, you will also wear out your front tires quickly. I have a better solution. Look above this, at a reply on a top post.

' no ballbearing / no grease... why put 4th small gearwheel inside a whole gear wheel
@Richiesrant9 жыл бұрын
I just tried this. It seemed to work ok for the front, but doesn't work on the back, the metal diff wont close and if you force it, the gears just bind up, like you have the brakes on full while trying to drive. There is a lock kit that comes with the kit I just found out about but nothing in the manual about it. Trying to find a vid on how to install it.

I used a Dremel and filed down the locking gear a bit to get it to fit right. I bought my cc-01 used so I didn't have the locking parts for it. filing that fourth gear down a bit, I was able to get it fit right. It's been well over a year since I did that and it has been working just fine.
