RC HOT TIP: Choosing the right RC Connectors
Here's another RC HOT TIP where I show you the connectors I have recently upgraded to and why. There are various different types of connectors out there and some are better than others for their own reasons, but my choice was made due to the ease of use and simplicity when running 2 batteries in series.
Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. :)

Great video! Glad to see someone else putting out a good word on the XT150. I switched all my surface RCs to them about a year ago and never looked back. Easy to solder, very versatile and easy to disconnect. Best of all they are pretty cheap and come in 3 colors if you want to do motor/ESC connections as well.

Perfect timing... my XT150's just arrived today from Hobbyking. I don't feel the need to be convinced with numbers.... common sense tells me it will be an improvement and will certainly make a much neater & adaptable install ! Many thanks Vas for your informative videos.

Just wanted to say I really appreciate your video. Just finished adding a Sidewinder 8th and figured it was the perfect time to change connectors. I used the xt150’s and won’t look back at those Traxxas connectors. Being able to avoid the “Y” connection is super nice too. Thanks so much for posting.

@leorcc
@leorcc 7 жыл бұрын
Not so much a joke but an observation. Tamiya plugs are among the weakest plugs for RC. Though popular in older RC's, anything above 30-40 A and the connector just melts together. To claim 300+ Amperes and then fit a Tamiya plug on your ESC says to me "I put that number on the package but I don't believe it either" .

Agreed, I ran Tamiyas on my first RC I got. Only running a 7 Cell NImh battery I burned the crap out of one of them and it actually melted the plastic from the connector on the battery to the connector on the ESC.

Thank you for the info! I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the castle connectors but they are very $$$$ plus i love the way they disconnect so you dont have to use an adapter to run two 3s or 4s packs for 6 or 8s speed runs and ill save a bit of money i can put into my car/lipos etc... shame bc i just bought a big pack of deans connectors a few months ago but they have been heating up quite a bit! Im sure ill find another use for em! Thanks again for taking the time to share info with other hobby junkies! Take care n be safe!

the red plug with the 4mm bullets are HXT 4mm. rated to 93A, they are super simple to solder and you can cut the plastic housing in half to make series connections like the xt150. I use these exclusively for my F3A pattern planes where 80-85A are typical, I use two 5S packs are wired in series to make a 10s pack. since they are banana conectors, they are great for lots of other uses too. you get a 10 pack from HK for about $4 USD.

Hi Vas. You sold me on converting to XT150 and I have watched this vid and your xt150 soldering video. The only thing you left out is a detailed section on what gender and housing to use on charger leads, battery, and esc to duplicate what you did. Even a picture of each would suffice. I have spent quite a bit of time searching the internet and info on this topic is scattered, inconsistent and conflicting with each other. Thanks mate. The way I'm putting it all together in my mind is: ESC: Female large red housing, Male skinny black housing Batteries: Female skinny red housing, Male large black housing Charger lead: Female large red housing, Male skinny black housing If that's not right, I'm totally lost.

used to use traxxas connectors, its like a deans but harder to use. The only really good thing about traxxas connectors is they will make you get much better at soldering. Not a horizon fanboy but i do like the ec5 dont get me wrong though xt90 looks pretty good when one of my ec5 bullets pulls out when i yank a cord when they are hot. I guess they all beat using electrical tape to keep your wires together.

The smaller 2-3s batteries would be fine with the bigger xt90/ec5 connectors right? Pardon the dumb question but i'm suuuuper green when it comes to amps and stuff like that. I figure since I only want to use one connector and have big 6s packs the bigger xt90/ec5's would be the best bet. Any info would be great!

I've always liked the idea of plugging batteries in series with bullet style connectors, however the danger of being able to plug them wrong (Short circuit a battery on itself or closing the circuit between 2 batteries) makes me regret them. Also the use of right sized or over sized connectors will mitigate the multi connection points "bottleneck" problem.
