Well after almost an hour after working on this motor getting it ready i finaly have it complete.....tho this video is only 16 mins long, i do cover a lot of cools tricks when cleaning and reassebling the TRX 3.3 motor
Now that the Traxxas 3.3 motor is all torn down its now time to get inside and start cleaning up all of the old gummed up fuel. After everything is looking 100% its time to put it all back together with some help from my good friend WD-40.
Tried out a new video setting in this video let me know what you think....BTW its cinematic mode.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Behemoth. and be sure to subscribe to RCoverload for the latest updates and some cool videos!

Very cool and helpfull video thank you for taking the time to make it! I think Its extremely important to note that WD-40 is EXTREMELY bad for o-rings... it dries them up, it is not a lubricant. It can be used for cleaning, but somethig else should be used for the assembly process.
@RCOverloadYT
@RCOverloadYT 9 жыл бұрын
thanks man for enjoying it! as far as the wd40 gose. i honestly can say i use wd40 on everything and not once had a problem with it...not even o rings drying out. i know that wd40 has a huge controversy over it. But at least from my experiance, i havent run in to problems. i actully just tore down my revo 3.3 motor for the first time since that rebuild video, the other week. and as far as i can tell the o rings are still good. ....Maybe i should do a video on wether or not wd40 is actully good or bad for RC o rings and bearing....maybe an interesting experiment.

RCoverload That's actually really good to know :) I come with that school of thought from the sport bike world. People use WD-40 to clean and "lube" their motorcycle chains (which have o-rings) and there have been many articles that prove the o-rings hate WD-40. I bet the chains take a LOT more abuse than what these engines see so it might not do as much (if any) damage to them. I have a feeling I will try WD-40 when it comes to my engine tear down :P Thanks for the reply!

No problem man! Ya o-rings are all made differently so im sure some do dry out. But IMO the amount of use that rc o-rings go threw...i honestly think people blow it out of proportion. Again thats just my opinion.

The TRX 3.3 is an ABC (Aluminum Brass Chrome) engine -listed in the engine section of a Traxxas owners manual for a vehicle that has the 3.3 engine. It does not have a copper sleeve, it has an aluminum pistion, and a brass sleeve with chrome plating on the inside.

@ 8:04 I believe you installed the back plate incorrectly. The notches on the back plate should be facing up towards the exhaust. You installed it facing down. Please let me know if it even matters where the notches go and why they're even there. I know this video is years old, but the engines are still built the same. lmk thx!

you talk about how important the sleeve is and the condition of it, what are your thoughts on porting those with fangs ,to increase efficiency? I'm in the middle of a rebuild on my 3.3 .and I'm at a stand still now because I want to make sure I've done everything I can , to make this rustler nitro run. I bought it with tons of upgrades, just ordered new rb cooling head and turbo button with hot plugs . so I'm allready right there with the sleeve,but I have been having some tuning issues

i just purchased a brand new revo 3.3 online from a distributor. mesh was off but what was worse was that there was a terrible grinding sound as i would go in reverse and back to forward. after watching one of your videos about the removal of the opti drive i opend my trans case and the output gear was ground with debris in the casing. does my warranty cover the repair or at least the cost of parts? and how can this be prevented in the future without removing the opt drive?

Its not a copper piston sleeve, bro. It's brass. And I wouldn't go so far as to say that "most tuning issues" are a result of a bad sleeve. Air leaks are a much more likely suspect than needing an engine overhaul. Good, informative video otherwise. Thanks for posting.

I was removing my 3.3 engine from my jato 3.3, and a non slip washer fell out. It looked like a hollow gear, unfortunately i don't know where it actually came from and so i reinstalled the engine, but i haven't ran it since i'm afraid that a screw may come lose. do you know where the washer would go?

+Technological Gamer I believe if your talking about the Bell housing on the pinion gear were the clutch is. their should be i believe a washer that goes in front of the clutch shoes and behind the gear assemble. it keeps it spaced out so its not rubbing.

+andre pate check to make sure the fuel lines are new. Sometimes old lines wont seal correctly on the nipples at the tank or carb. Also put a new glow plug in. Worse case is the piston and sleeve are worn out and thiers no or not enough compression. Happens all the time. One way to tell is a motor will almost spin freely if you turn the flywheel by hand. You should have a good amount of resistance at top dead center. Also ill explain this a little more in detail next tuesday. Be a great questions for are tuesday viewer questions segment.

I need help, i cant start my engine! it has started a couple times, but it dies right after, even if i give it gass or not. yes i primed and tuned it from max rich to max lean, and still wont start. i put 20% torko fuel in it, it has been outside for 6 months in a gallon (could that be the problem?). i have been slaving over it for hours. the max it held on was abut 6 seconds. i took it apart and cleaned it with wd40 and cleaned the carb. it started once for like 3 seconds then couldnt start it again. i can upload a video, but i spent 200 bucks on this and i really need help. i had a redcat buggy before this and this is my 2nd car.

Your video has been very helpful. I had to replace my inner and outer crankshaft bearings and your video was very helpful to understand the process of properly breakin the engine down. I do have one question. Is it a bad thing the top of my piston is not shiny? Its a dark brown almost black. Is that buildup or is this a sign the piston is burned up? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
@RCOverloadYT

Glade i could help you out! And yes thats perfectly normal. Thats just residue from the burned nitro fuel. The darker the area the more the engine has been used, thats all. It isnt a bad idea to clean it off as much as u can. If you cant get much off, not too worry it wont hurt it.

RCoverload Thank you Sir for the quick reply. Appreciate it! I am a novice newbie and I just got my motor back together this evening. I have one small problem that maybe you can provide some advice or suggestion. The motor is running hot close to 300 degrees wide open with the body on it. However, when I run it without the body the temp seems to be much cooler around 270 or less. If I richen it to bring the temp down when running wide open with body on it tends to bog down a little and I can't get it to switch into 2d gear in wide open throttle. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
@RCOverloadYT
@RCOverloadYT 10 жыл бұрын
Aaaa yes the tempermentle temps as i call it..haha thier are a few things you can do. First awenser this. What is the tempature and humidity that your running your truck in? 2nd thing- If richening your truck bogs it down, you have 2 options. 1- drill a decent sized whole in the windshield of the truck. This will allow air to get to the motor much easier, and allow it to run cooler. 2nd - you can try running a cooler glow plug then what you are using now. Your local hobby shop should know what to give you if you tell them. Lastly what nitro percentag are you running along with what type of fuel are you using?
@bryancanter7898
@bryancanter7898 10 жыл бұрын
RCoverload My temp this evening was about 70 and humidity was 72. I didnt know you could by a colder glow plug. I am using an extra glow plug my brother gave me from his TRX 2.5, are they different glow plugs? Yeah.. I thought about drilling holes in my bodies windshield to increase air flow for better cooling. on Fuel question- Running Traxxas Top Fuel Power Plus 20%. Do you think to use colder glow plugs during the summer and hotter glow plugs in the fall when weather temps drop? I live in Knoxville, TN. Thanks!

RCoverload Also, My idle speed needle next to blue boot is set at only a half turn out.. If I set it at 2.5 turns it will not stay running. My temp at idle is around 170, is that good?

I may be mistaken, but i dont think the 3.3's actully have a locking ring....let me see what i can come up with. Your issue almost sounds like your engine had locked up from too much fuel entering because of a possible bad glow plug......but let me see if i can dig anything up for you.
