I've been flying for over 10 years and I always land nose in the cause of this mishap and was the Jesus bolt broke! Not tail strike, not mainshft failure and not a stone hitting it either. During the fight half the bolt was in dew the the weight of the fuse and pitch in the blades, but when I landed and hit throttle hold that took the pitch out of the rotor head and the bolt was able to slide out which made the head come off the main shaft. Being the ball links was the only thing holding on the head the rotor jump sideways a hit the fuse and popped the links off and flew about 15 feet away. But to date she is back in the air and damage areas have been repainted. So since the crash I've flown the helicopter a total of 27 flights so she is better then ever. I slow down the head speed from 1740- to 1500 And improved the flight time and redused the heat of my 6cell packs after every flight.

Just want to give an update this heli won 1st place in sport scale at Topgun in Lakeland Florida on April 30 2016 so this little mishap didnt stop heli from being a champ in it class this year.

I think the Jesus bolt was loose, when the head was unloaded on landing the bolt lost tension and failed. This allowed the head to move up, the linkages were still attached resulting in more positive pitch, rapidly increasing lift, pulling the helicopter airborne until the linkages failed.

It looks exactly like someone used a .22lr sniper rifle and landed a bullet right on the exposed section of rotor shaft.

AARGGHHHH. Even when it's not Your own and especially with a pilot who actually fly's it and doesn't just hover around all day, You feel the pain and swear out loud with such a gorgeous build. So glad to read it's back in action.I lost one on the ground after a flight when some "Dude" flipped on His radio on My channel to check His plane ! My Century Fuse 500D, Raptor mechs flipped right on it's side like it was hit by a bus.! All that happened to Him was His flaps fluttered cause I had My gyro rate on CH6.....Prick.

This beautiful helicopter had vibrations in flight. I could see the pilot vibrating in the cockpit.

By the way it reacts, it looks like some force hit the helicopter causing it to tumble. At 3:07 just after the crash, a stone miraculously appears just to the right of the copter.

Dang! It sounds like it hit something. If you by just the sound. I have a few RC helis and I'm trying to think what could fail and cause so much damage! To break the main shaft pin would take some serious force. It's like an invisible something flet into it!

If you slow it right down it looks like the jesus bolt for the head failed, I have never heard of this happening in 35 years of flying heli's, sorry for your loss.

I was just about to say it was the Jesus Bolt but somebody beat me to it... What a shame. Hope you can repair it.

At 4:09 I was able to freeze the rotor just as it let go. The blades are all connected just before the lift of the Head from the end of the broken shaft and rips them all loose. The blades were perfectly flat with no pitch until the head let go! The cause of the head failure was at the end of the main shaft. The closeup of the shaft looks like it may have failed because the wall of the main shaft was too thin and was not strong enough to withstand the defective thin wall. What looks like threads at the top being so near the inside wall of the shaft makes this the most likely reason for this accident. Be sure to check the measurements when you get the new part. If the old part is out of specifications I would make the manufacturer pay for it's repair!

What a beautiful helicopter, what a pity it broke and the zoom on the crashed pilot .

my turbine alouette did that during a demo .. the jesus bolt sheared and the complete rotor head went awol .. not too much damage .. one spectator in a wheelchair was slightly injured with a broken rotor blade .

kinda figured something wasn't right by the way the pilot was shaking.

I had to watch this video, such a nice heli wanted to see what the weird crash was about. Watching the video carefully, it appears that one of the links failed while the rotor was still rev-ing high, throwing off the blade pitch, rotor stability, and leading to breaking the thin wall shaft. At least no blade grips failed and blades became projectiles.

That wasn't a stone hit the helicopter that was one of the large led weights I had up front for the CG and after the crash the weight fell out

I think maybe there is some heat dissipation issue.

The cause was to jesus bolt failure! I finally found it and the treades for the locking nut striped. But she all back togther and aready flew it twice yesterday, now just nees to touch up two spots of paint that was damaged.

Looks to me like someone threw a stone into the rotor disc. At 3:09 just before landing the ground is clear. At 3:14 when it gets destroy, you see it jump up and a decent size pebble suddenly appears. It can clearly be seen on the ground afterwards.Either a bird dropped it or someone threw it. It went in the rotor disc causing the jesus bolt to shear.

maybe while he was throttle cutting he accidently pushed pitch up all the way and that is what caused the jesus bolt to break?

Bad luck, and lucky that didn't happen when he flew over you. You can see the first thing that happened was the blades pitch went fully nuts and then the top rotor head comes off, sorry for not using the right terminology.

The jesus bolt very well could have broke, BUT.. At EXACTLY 4:36, there are 2 frames. One frame shows the linkages intact, the next FRAME shows 2 linkages came undone and flailed outwards making 2 blades go very positive pitch. I think this moment made the head come off. Sorry about the loss. I dont know where that rock came from?

if u look the video in slow motion u will see, that just before the heli crashes, the flaps of the main rotory goes fully down, making a fast jump, ripping it off from the heli , after witch it flies off the heli and lands rotating, that causes the 2 rocks land next to heli, and would look like someone threw a rock at it. best guess is, that it was a glitch in the controlbord .

Looks to me like a broken swashplate linkage. If you look very closely (with 0.25 speed) you can see at 4:06 the linkage falling into cabin causing massive pitch increase at the blades because the swashplate came loose instantly. You can see in one frame their bottom flipping camera-wards. This pitch increase liftet the whole head off the heli and may have caused the broken jesus bolt.
