I'm excited to demonstrate how to assemble the RC2014 Z80 hobbyist computer. This is the Classic model using the Full Monty kit.
This, and related Z80 computer kits can be purchased from the creator. Check the RC2014 website below for more information:

P.S. If you like the music, it is my own.

Came for the legendary Z-80, the CPU I learned how to program on, stayed for the music. Nice work all around! My challenge for you once you get it up and running is to program it to play The Game of Life in honor of Conway's passing this year.

@@lilbits3136 Cool man, if you get stuck let me know I might be able to help out. I wrote a pretty good version in C for Arduino recently but never tried it in Z80 assembler. I have seen it done on the net somewhere, do some searching and you'll find the source. Then its just a matter of getting it to load and run.

Great video. That's one of the most relaxing things I've watched in a while, took my mind off the pandemic 😁. I'm about to build an RC2014 soon myself (the ZED Pro) and this video has given me a lot of confidence and tips, thanks.

Good choice on going with a Pro version it's a better backplane and more flexible, the ZED runs CP/M with enough RAM for all of the legacy software too. I would Recommend an ESP8266, in addition a lot of addon cards use the enhanced bus. you may want to added the 20-pin headers to all positions.

izitneoGS compatible?

After a little research, not out of box, though that's due to the connector and not the design. I believe it would be quite possible to build an adapter that would make it compatible. Sorry for the delayed response. Things have been crazy hectic here lately.

1:08 Collapse OS?!?! Is that real? It might be handier learning Arduino or similar: microcontroller principles rather than a whole OS on a microprocessor. If you need to get things working rather than doing communications on a functioning network... But I'm still not sure its a joke!

Apologies for the late replies, it's been very busy for me lately. Arduino's pretty easy, but also more obfuscated. CollapseOS is very real, and it's been a game changer for me in terms of building a solid understanding of low level computing concepts. While I actually do think its design goals hold value (that is, I believe there is a real possibility society could collapse and future peoples might need something like this) I treat it as a study tool that opens up possibilities for me in more modern computing settings and workplaces. I don't think I'd have developed as deep of an understanding of the Z80, nor CPU architecture in general, without digging deeply into CollapseOS, at least not this quickly after starting. I'm hoping to leverage this understanding to change career tracks from DevOps and server systems to embedded, IoT, and hardware design. Of course the latest release is written in forth, which has absolutely blown my mind from an embedded dev language perspective.

@@lilbits3136 would it not be a good idea to swap the chips for radiation proof, EMF proof(if they exist lol?) or mil spec versions (just in case, i mean with the great reset who knows what may come lol. not lol) i'm not that up on this stuff, but its very interesting.
