Whenever I hear “ feminists “ saying that there were no “ strong female characters “ until the likes of Captain Marvel came along,I laugh and think of Jamie Summers and Linda Carter’s Wonder Woman.

It's hard to explain what The Bionic Woman meant to girls when this was on. She was fantastic. She was beautiful, kind, had a career, a dog, a fabulous loft, and all those bionic powers. We couldn't get enough of her. She was our hero. No telling how many of us pretended we could open a can of tuna with our fingernail. She was a practical feminist. Not the man hating feminists of academia. We loved her. Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman too.

I've not seen the series, but I'm guessing that she was also a realistic character with faults and problems, instead of the modern, no issues, completely amazing in every way type characters. It's important to me that my future children, no matter which gender, have good roll models.

+Melanie Daniels She meant a lot to boys too! I remember watching this show when I was a kid and at that age, I didn't understand it from a social or feminist perspective. I just thought it was an awesome, action/adventure, spy show about a hot chick with some really cool bionic powers. The fact that she'd have crossovers with the Six Million Dollar Man (another show I liked) and some great episodes where she was either fighting fembots, or training a bionic dog, or trying to outwit an evil supercomputer, or fending off an alien invasion, this was just really great (although somewhat cheesy) 70's science fiction adventure. Plus, to a 12 year old kid, Jaime was very easy on the eyes, and I'm pretty sure I used to spank it thinking about the bionic woman, lol.

Thank God she wasn't taken from us on May 25, 1979...Lindsay and her mother were at Chicago-O'Hare Airport to fly back to L.A., and they'd booked the flight on American Airlines #191, but at the last minute hesitated then booked a later flight. As were going back to the hotel, Flight #191's left wing engine detached on take-off, tearing open the airliner's hydraulic system...25 seconds later it crashed into a trailer park, killing everyone on board, plus 2 on the ground. Lindsay has only talked about it maybe 5 times in interviews over the years. I remember it so well because it was my birthday, and I and my parents were just leaving Houston when we heard the bulletin on the car radio. I had a big crush on Lindsay back then, and read about her and her mom's close call with the crash only about 10 years ago. (A few years later she was in a car wreck, which explains the scar on her upper lip.)

Mark Whalberg is bringing The Six Million Dollar Man to the big screen in 2016. If it does well there will be a franchise created which will introduce The Bionic Woman. The film will be gritty. Mark will play Steve Austin a secret service agent working for OSI. They are introducing this new universe to balance the super hero universe. Lets support this film so that we can eventually get a new Bionic Woman film off the ground. You are cute by the way.

This comment really sums up my feelings.I can't help but look at Lindsay's awesome beauty and her open manner and generous spirit and feel haunted by an immense sense of loss.America never had a finer champion as the Bionic woman stood for something special. She gave America a sense of destiny, harmony and well being that it has never experienced since. From then on It has been downhill all the way not just for America but the whole world. We are so missing her power to inspire and fill our greying world with light and joy.

I like how she always moved aside her hair to hear with her bionic ear--but seriously, I enjoyed this show and thought it was better than The Six Million Dollar Man. The character Jamie was a sweet person, very likeable and witty. We watched the show as a family every week. If I recall correctly, the pilot or lead-in to the story of her bionics was quite tragic and sad.

The Bionic Woman theme song used to make me very emotional. That whole intro sequence. I remember my sister teasing me mercilessly when she saw me get teary-eyed. It just all seemed so cool and beautiful and possible - look at that amazing, kind and strong lady! And look how they show her strength and also her teaching the kids. No beating up or killing anyone, no boob shots. I wanted a teacher like her so badly!

You're not alone in getting emotional. I don't know if you remember how her first appearance in the Six Million Dollar Man tv show ended (and if you don't, I won't spoil it), but if you ever watch it, you're likely to get plenty emotional. When I saw that episode again in my late 20's just a few years back, I had the strangest visceral reaction to it. I had forgotten how that episode of Six Million Dollar Man had ended and I've never been so unexpectedly moved by a tv show ever. If you can get your hands on the dvd set, check out her very first appearance. Apparently childhood feelings never leave.

This show was so incredible! Watched it as a very little kid in the 80s when they started re-airing it (I thought it originally came out in the 80s until a couple years ago lol). Lindsay Wagner was such an incredible talent and really broke the mold for female action heroines. Jamie Somers was caring, kind, tough, resolute and always made you root for her. Mariska Hargitay, Lucy Lawless, Kyra Sedgwick and so many others owe Lindsay for paving the way

Young girls today don't have too many role models to look up to. I'am soooooo glad I was apart of that era. It was a good and simpler time. I miss it so much. It's hard to explain what The Bionic Woman meant to boys when this was on. Her Character was Strong, Classy and Beautiful.

I remember watching this show in the 70s. It was a great show.It would be great if they can give bionics to people who been injured.

Always loved the look on her face when she busted the tennis ball! Damn. Lindsay Wagner was like my major babe of the 70s. Even more than Farrah Fawcett Majors.

Reels Rihard Yeah. Not only was she beautiful, but she was naturally born to play the role of Jamie Summers. Anyone else would of fucked up the the show. I never get fed up watching the same episodes hundreds of times. Isn't that bizarre? To me, the Bionic Women is just a comfort show. Like comfort food. I'm thinking about possibly purchasing the entire series on DVD Amazon. Well see. I got to go now, I got a phone call from the OSI, and I have to take care of business!!!

Lindsay was beautiful, stunning and gorgeous but she did have a plain jane aspect to her which made it easier to identify with her.She was not a fantasy doll type or pneumatic blonde but came across as a real flesh and blood person that involved us totally in her struggles and made us care for her and sympathize with her moments of vulnerability! If she was just another plastic screen goddess with no recognizable human qualities our interest would soon wane but she was more interested in exploring character rather than playing up to any sex bomb image and that made us take her to our hearts. She brought out the human centre from beneath the facade of perfect beauty!
