Residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) is an electrical protection device. It is commonly known as circuit breaker. This is a current sensing device. It can automatically measure and disconnect the circuit when any fault occurs in the connected circuit or the current exceeds the rated sensitivity
RCCB immediately cuts off the power supply upon detecting leakage. It closes the circuit in a fraction of a second. This can prevent damage to people and equipment.
RCCBs are usually located in the distribution board (also known as DB box) or circuit breaker box in the home. This can be identified as a switch with a 'Test' button.
The main difference between RCCB and ELCB breakers is the way they detect faults. RCCB detects a fault by measuring the incoming and outgoing currents in the live and neutral wires. Whereas, ELCB is directly connected to the earth cable so that it can detect earth leakage currents.
